About Me

9/17/17 Addendum. I don't text, and I can't figure out how CouchSurfing wants me to add a profile picture. They already have one, BTW. I really don't want to waste my time with this IT crap.

4/1/16 Addendum.

Finally read my references. Thank you for all the kind words. Every one of you was wonderful and special.

Cannot put in countries where I've visited and lived. Mean software. Suffice it to say, I've been to all countries in Western Europe except Portugal, the Southern cone of Africa up to Zambia, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Ecuador.

I haven't been accepting Couchsurfers for the past four years. Girlfriend moved in, moved out (still my girlfriend), house renovations, house was a mess, overwhelmed by things happening in my life.

But it's all right now.

I am READY to accept Couchsurfers again. And to crash on some other people's couches too.

Information below remains correct -- too old to change, just want to take a few more trips. I'm older and badder than ever.

CURRENT MISSION

To subvert the dominant paradigm, by random provocation -- by edumacaating the willing and able, by withering sarcasm.

ABOUT ME

College in Charlottesville, VA, law school plus 25 years thereafter in Austin, TX, last sixteen years back in Memphis, where my family is from.

Music, travel, politics, metaphysical exploration, intelligent conversation.

I'd call myself an intellectual. a mystic, and a sensualist.

I have a big old house behind an eight foot privacy fence and two big friendly dogs.

PHILOSOPHY

I try to do right by my clients, and to pursue my spiritual quest.

And to make war on evil, in whatever form it takes.

"Stupidity is the greatest sin". -- Alesteir Crowley

Favorite animal: Honey Badger

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hosted at least 20 CouchSurfers in 2011-2012. As I say, the game is on again. I have decent if plain lodgings and as much lively banter and music as you can handle. Try me.

Yes, you can sleep here, go see Beale Street, Graceland, rest, relax. Most people stay 2 days -- a few places to go -- except those just passing through.

If you REALLY get on my good side, I'll take you down to The Crossroads, time permitting.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't officially couchsurfed at anyone's house, but I stay regularly at my son's place in Nashville. He considers me quite a pain.

I would like to have CS guests at least once a month. About 20 in the nine months I offered accomodations, 2011-2012.

Everyone has been cool -- at LEAST OK+,

More than a few have been ABSOLUTELY REMARKABLE people, lifelong friends from now on!

I have had nothing but good experiences with all the guests I've accepted.

Interests

Music, travel, cuisine, history, economics, politics, community organizing, the arts, shamanism.

My values -- critical thinking, cultural literacy, social capital.

Ooooohhh yeah -- when I grow up, I wanna be a shaman, a medieval lord, and rock star.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

"I can't tell you but I know it's mine". -- Lennon/ McCartney

Victoria Falls,

Grand Canyon,

A full moon over Popocatepetl,

Cotapaxi.

Tikal.

New Year's Eve in Plaza Catalunya (channeling Jim Morrison), in general, amazing myself from time to time. Teonanacatl.

"You can crawl, you can fly too" -- Joni Mitchell

Teach, Learn, Share

Huh? Well, in a pinch, I'd say --

"You're either on the bus or off the bus". -- Ken Kesey

"Either go away or go ALL the way in". -- Grace Slick

Intuitive wisdom. Opening the Third Eye. Realizing what you already know. Being who you really are now.

I really like the "Teach, Learn, Share" mission statement.

What I Can Share with Hosts

House, parking, fenced private garden, friendly dogs, bedrooms, sofa, floor space, food, drink, WiFi, possibly some local transport. Good company.

I like an occasional shot of tequila, bourbon, and/or 4: 20. Or beer.

Generally I don't drink except when I have guests or am with my son. We'll get whatever you want and I'll drink some of it.

But I go for weeks and months without any. Trying to stay young and healthy. But guests are a reason to party.

I've visited over 30 countries but this software won't let me list them. Western Europe, Southern Africa, Latin America.

I have lived in the UK, Sweden, South Africa, France, and the US.

Interested in becoming a couchsurfer myself in the next year or so now that I've retired, moving to Mexico next year (Guanajuato?), plan to travel extensively in SE Asia, Latin America, Mediterranean, Baltic, Eastern Europe -- short visits to places like Central Asia, India, China, Japan, etc.
