About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Work the roots for sweeter fruits

ABOUT ME

Slow starter, then unstopable. Love to push things further.
I somehow like to go the hard way, and always do things in my own style.
Stubborn and creative.
When I sleep, I feel like I'm saving time for later.
I think I am a ninja in my mind.
I love to eat crunchy stuff.
I don't believe in fatality, but in faithful and consciously oriented action.
Slackyness and discipline are roomates inside me. They love each other and are both there to stay. Either I do too much or I sleep. I have 2 speeds: slow motion or adrenaline! Don't wait for me, I won't run!
I love to talk to random people on the street, they make my day.
Say what's on my mind, always have a hard time when it's time to shut up.
I hate one way conversations!

Since I work as a fireman in 2002, I've studied a melting pot of languages, media, psychology, litterature, creative writing. The road is my university. I like to get the basics at school and learn the rest freestyle, so I never got a high level diploma.
I am not a specialist in anything, but love to touch, dive, test and try.
Always trying to get a little better and touching it all, so even on vacation I'm late and short on time.

I've had the chance to visit over 20 countries. Travelling helps me finding inspiring people.
I like unconventionnal, to do things my own way. Surprise is always better! I don't take myself too seriously... I need to move, learn and challenge. Any kind of sport, I'm in for a game. Loosing brings progress, but winning is more fun! Any subject, I'll discuss. I might talk a lot and ask questions.
I can't live without music, and a song must have a soul!
Goals and ambitions in life (a few): Laugh a lot, write a book sometime (have a travel blog in french if you can read it), keep on playing harmonica until I'm too old to even hold it, stay healthy, learn 6 languages, keep talking to old crazy people in the park and live in a way to never regret my decisions.
Life is not a race, so I always take my time!
In 20 years, I picture myself fishing lunch on the beach in front of my retirement house, after a mellow morning surf session. Up for a snack, I'll smoke you a piece!

PHILOSOPHY

La vie n'est pas une course.
-Don't wait for me, I won't run! But try to follow me when I finally start.
-Just be yourself. If you're not, then who's gonna be?
-Be nice or stay away.
-If you fight, fight for a reason that's bigger than you. Fight brings change, but no change comes without purpose.
-If you worry, you die. If you don't worry, you also die (hopefuly later!). So why worry?
-The difference is fundamental between a conversation and a monologue with a spectator.
- Una cosa es cierta hoy: sé que manana no me sentiré vacío de haber tenido miedo ayer.
- To live with fear is not to live.
- Life is what you make it.
- Music is the only worlwide borderless language.
Balance is sitting on chaos. If chaos gets away, then balance falls down. So for me, it's about enjoying the wonders of chaos with discipline (if that makes sense for someone else than me?!). I try to be a good balance between a granpa and a crazy kid.
Freestyle is the word, just go baby! Yes we can! Vive la possibilité!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Been meeting people and hosted while travelling. CS helps to meet smart and sensitive people, it's a great filtering process! Of course I want to welcome visitors in my beautiful city, since people have been so nice to me abroad. I like the concept of community, and do my part. I know some great places to ride a bike, fish, get out and see shows, drink and eat well. I love to share experiences with people. It will be a pleasure to show one of the most free spirited cities of the world, Montreal! Some of you guys might need tips to survive our winter... Montreal is seen through its typical backstreets, multicultural faces and forgotten areas. Keep it underground baby!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Met good and smart people and had crazy times with some. Surfed and hosted a couple times.

Interests

Music is my moods. A therapy, a hobby and a passion. Blues, reggae, hip hop, jazz, african music, old times rock'n'roll... Anything, as long as it's got soul!
I play harmonica and wanna learn more.
I love to know new people and learn about their ideas. We all have something to show to somebody, the trick is to look right and keep my eyes open.
Laid back and stress free, I like watching movies or socialising or filosofying with friends and family, around a drink (why not!).
Intense sports: ultimate frisbee, snowboard, Kitesurfing, yoga and tae kwon do.
Always down for a whisky or tequila!

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't like being took for an idiot, life's too short to watch boring movies! Anything smart and/or subversive, funny, unconventionnal. Different, new! Hard to choose, but I think the Cohen brothers are a good example of incredible movie makers.
A few classics: City of god, Snatch, Little Miss Sunshine, Pulp Fiction, Amorres Perros, From dusk till dawn, Lock stock and two smoking barells, The Constant Gardener, Happy Gilmore (The best stupid comedy!), Aliens, Rocky, Em teu nome...
Favorite music artist: A new one everyday, but Taj Mahal will always have his place in my ears. African or reggae music make mornings easier.
Favorite author? I'd say Albert Camus, John Steinbeck, La Fontaine and Herman Hesse before changing my mind again.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I kitesurfed hurricane Sandy in Cuba. Traveling around latin America, drinking tequila with cowboys in dark and stinky cantinas, diving in the middle of a 500 school of huge barracudas and hammerhead sharks, karaoke singing with a bunch a mexican cowboys, freefall skydiving, playing barefoot soccer with a bunch of kids in a 12 inch-deep mudfield, sharing philosofic thoughts and watching the stars with jungle people, surfing with the impression that every wave can kill me, and so much more to come...

Teach, Learn, Share

French, spanish, cooking, music and sports, I know well.
I am willing to learn: Languages, surfing, sea fishing, navigating, photo, MUSIC (I play harmonica, berimbao and percussions) or anything with high adrenaline level!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to cook for people, share my music and home culture, or a skill I have and you can improve, maybe!
Sharing is teaching, teaching is learning.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, France, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Jamaica, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Switzerland, Thailand, United States
