About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My mission is to dig the world. Write music and books, paint pictures and draw stuff, shoot photos, play some sports, watch some movies, make some movies, play some videogames, explore cultures, and love people. :)

ABOUT ME

I suppose I'm a little like a throwback to the beatnik generation. I didn't do all of the hitch hiking they did, but January 2009 marked a year in Alabama, which is the longest I've lived in one place in over fourteen years. So that's a lot of traveling, living with a lot of different kinds of people, experiencing a lot of different cultures. It started out when I was a kid, and I followed my folks around as they were missionaries to Europe and everything. The years passed and not much changed, as we were independent and none of us "worked", had an affiliation with any particular churches, or had any savings. My folks would feel like God was telling them to go someplace, and more often than you'll likely believe, the money showed up for us to be able to go there. We never did any of that sort of "feed the hungry" type mission work, but rather the whole purpose of everything we did, I feel in hindsight, was to love people. That we did a lot of, and we changed a lot of lives, our own included.
These days (Spring 09) I'm trying to get my way into the Academy of Arts University in San Francisco to study illustration. Also trying to get myself up to Portland where I'll find an apartment with some friends and hopefully stay in one place long enough to experience a settled lifestyle. I'll do classes online at first, if I find a way to afford AAU, and then move down to meet up with a friend on campus later. If I can't get in, I'll dig Portland for a while around the company of some good friends I love very much, and try to figure out things from there.
The problem with me is that I want to do everything, so I can't decide what to single out as a career. I say I want to study illustration, but depending on my inspirations I want to, at any given time, write books, movies, music as part of a band, draw storyboards, be a concept artist for videogames or what have you, and generally be involved with everything all at once.
I have recently finished the first draft of my first book, so I'm proud of that, a couple short film screenplays, and I have written some songs personally and with some bands, but nobody ever had the time to take it to the road. I also continue to draw and paint every day.

PHILOSOPHY

Personal philosophy... In the end, it kind of boils down to loving, searching and learning.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I don't have a couch for anyone to sleep on yet, but I'm very familiar with staying in other people's homes, and this seemed like a good way to keep that window open.

Music, Movies, and Books

This one could take a long time, so I'll just throw down what comes into my head first: Life of Pi, The Big Lebowski, I Heart Huckabees, Smashing Pumpkins, Lost In Translation, Catcher in the Rye, On the Road, Radiohead, Pedro the Lion.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I don't really know what constitutes as amazing, really. Some people say my lifestyle has been amazing, seeing that I've traveled the world with my family with no income or home. You see a lot of interesting stuff when you travel. You meet a lot of interesting people when you hop from house to house. But I don't know what I would call amazing... I mean, the 2008 Super Bowl was amazing. Tyree's catch, man. Jason Lezack coming back at the end of the Olympic relay. That was amazing. But personally? I don't know what I could say here.

Teach, Learn, Share

Let's see... I could teach you how to draw. I can teach you some guitar, drums, or about dynamic range in art/photographs. I could tell you a thing or two about Brazilian jiu-jitsu or boxing, too.
I'm really interested in learning stuff about Japan, or anything you might see on the discovery channel. Basically, if you can make something or tell me how something works, I'll probably be glad to hear it.
