About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be open to new things and to learn something every day.

ABOUT ME

I am Alina. I am a thinker, solver, engineer. I am a scientist, chemist, pharmacist and pharmacologist. I like puzzles. I love my job, since it embodies some of the above.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is beautiful. You should enjoy it.
Every person has something to teach others, and every person can learn from others.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I had a great time couchsurfing the Detroit Couch Crash and DEMF this year, and met a couple wonderful people hosting with my roommates! If my living situation improves, I will be able to host more surfers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had a great time hosting surfers from Canada and France! We rode bikes, went to see hip-hop shows, and expanded our views together.
I also had a great time couchsurfing in Detroit - 2 years in a row, while going to the most rockin' places the city had to offer. Looking forward to more experiences.

Interests

Bikes - I have 3. Don't judge me. I got a tourer/cargo bike, singlespeed mtb, and singlespeed bar/around town bike.

Climbing - mostly gym climbing and urban walls/trees. I've gone climbing outside and it is a very calming, Zen experience that can also be intense and is always fun.

Dancing - I think it keeps me sane, really.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like a lot of dystopia books (Brave New World, 1984) and some classic Russian sci-fi (Snail on a Slope). Russian classics are great. My favorite is Crime and Punishment. The Idiot is a close second. Very powerful books. Pushkin's short stories are my favorites for a quick read.
I also really enjoy Kurt Vonnegut and read at least one of his books every summer.

I love electronic music and hip-hop. I especially enjoy house, techno, and hardcore. In hip-hop, I like a lot of rappers from Def Jux label and local Minneapolis crews (Rhymesayers, Doomtree, Sota ent).

A few electronic artists I like:
||House|| Green Velvet, Masters at Work, Fedde le Grand, Bad Boy Bill, Funkerman, Eric Prydz/Pryda/Moo.
||Techno|| Ben Klock, Richie Hawtin (yes,I know lots of people don't like him), Chris Liebing, Tony Rohr, Joey Beltram, Monica Kruse, Tocadisco, Audion, Carl Cox.
||Psytrance|| Psykovsky, Infected Mushroom, Hallucinogen, Juno Reactor, Shpongle, Astral Projection.
Booty house gets a special mention :)
I like to dance to hardcore and hardstyle :)
Lately I've gotten very much into the local scene and listen to a lot of:
Aaron Bliss, Jesse Jakob, DVS1, Dj ESP (Woodie McBride, old school acid), Dustin Zahn, Ian Lehman, Mike G, Little Aaron, DanielPaul (Ghetto).
Nate Laurence and J.Matthews, Matt Veloce.
Easyrider+MC Hyde and Dyami rocked my world with jungle.
