About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore Delhi without getting completely lost and overwhelmed!

ABOUT ME

Generally I think people see me as a sociable person. I love learning languages through speaking to people, and learning about the places I am travelling through. I enjoy the great outdoors, but also art, film and music, so like to get a combination of countryside and city when I'm travelling.

I've always had a very strong sense of social responsibility, and I'm very interested in politics and environmental issues. That has led me into teaching in the UK, and I am now looking to move into community based education.

I have a fun and lighthearted side, and enjoy meeting new people and going out and seeing the world.

PHILOSOPHY

Don't know that I have one beyond trying to live my life in a way that I enjoy, without harming others or the environment.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am about to go to India for a month for my sister's wedding in Varanasi. Most of our trip is planned, but I have a few days in Delhi and would love to meet people there.

Back in the UK I am currently living with my parents, so it is rather difficult to host. My mother is a member of another organisation, Servas, through which we have a pretty regular stream of visitors!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been a member of a similar organisation called SERVAS, and have stayed with someone in Italy through that. I'm also an occasional member of WWOOF, an organisation of organic farms hosting volunteer visitors, and have stayed in farms in Scotland and France. They've been really good experiences. Lots of stories, but would rather relate them in person!

I used Couchsurfing quite a bit when travelling in South America a few years ago and really loved it. I met some lovely, friendly people and saw placesI certainly wouldn't have done otherwise!

Interests

Music - world, folk, electronic, a bit of hip hop and reggae, and occasionally singing myself!
Non-Hollywood films.
Gardening and growing vegetables.
Cycling and swimming in cold rivers and lakes!
Communal living.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Orchestra Baobab, Tropicalia, Ethiopian swing! Fairport Convention, Hot Chip
Films: Loved Rust and Bone last year. Always try and see the new Ken Loach films. Saw a very bizarre one called Far North last year, which was the most disturbing thing I've ever seen I think!
Books: Loved Jane Eyre when I was younger. Favourite book of recent years was The Kite Runner. Am currently reading The Spirit Level, a non-fiction book about why inequality is bad for us all!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been to Timbuktu!
Also, used to help my aunt with delivering lambs when she used to work as a sheperdess up in the mountains in Scotland.

Teach, Learn, Share

Happy to share a few favourite recipes, when I can get my hands on the ingredients.
Love to join in with any impromptu music sessions, and would like to improve my Spanish, and happy to help others with English or French.
On this particular trip I am keen to learn what I can about Indian history, culture and politics. Always love a good discussion, and keen to share my views and knowledge about the UK and global issues!
