Find a cure for AIDS, perfect my French, and get everyone to ditch their car and ride a bike.

ABOUT ME

I'm a former daily newspaper reporter who left the business when it was just starting to no longer be the greatest job in the world (and it was). I started a non-profit to run very cool, very intimate charity bike rides to support causes I love and give people a chance to test themselves and do something extraordinary. I met my husband riding a bike across Alaska in a snowstorm, and we continue to have great adventures.

PHILOSOPHY

Everyone has the capacity to achieve something extraordinary. Show up, do your best, don't quit.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My husband and I lead weekend bike trips from NYC up to Rockland County. Most riders are training for my two bike rides, www.empirestateaidsride.org and www.nycdc.org, but we welcome cyclists from around the world who just want to ride for fun. COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I met one of my best friends on the internet in 1994, while researching a solo trip to Paris. We corresponded for two years before I decided to meet her on a trip to San Francisco. We were both worried that a very literate 12-year-old or a crazy person would be on the other side of the door. I ended up crashing on her couch for the night after two bottles of wine and great conversations, and she's remained one of my closest friends.

Bicycles, organic gardening, architecture and green design (I'm about to heat my house with a geothermal system) being a mentor to newcomers to the non-profit sector, supporting great scientists like Dr. Yuntao Wu at George Mason University, who's someday going to find a cure for HIV.
