About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Eating breakfast...

ABOUT ME

A wandering vagabond at heart, I am currently stuck in one place til I can afford to strike out into the world again. These days, I work mostly as a stage technician, doing lighting and building sets. I'm also the production manager for a cabaret and modern dance company.

I like to keep myself busy with any number of projects involving music, languages, or writing. When I'm not stuck in the city I spend my summers living in a truck and working as a whitewater rafting guide, though this summer I'm thinking about hitchhiking via sailboat down the East Coast.

I tend to have an overly dark sense of humor, I'm interested in just about everything, and I aim to learn something from every person I meet. I loathe anything and everything having to do with border controls, and love finding ways to break borders down and explore.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm an optimist. A pessimist says things couldn't possibly get any worse, while an optimist realizes they can.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hosted quite a few wandering vagabonds on my old couch in Cairo, I tell everyone I know about CouchSurfing, and I thoroughly enjoyed surfing across Israel, Germany, and the UK. Since I can't host right now, I love meeting up with weary travelers for a bite to eat, a quiet drink, or the occasional raucous party.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

See above. All have been good, save one where my host simply disappeared without telling me. Bad form absent host, bad form.

Music, Movies, and Books

Some of my favorite movies are: No Man's Land, V for Vendetta, The Godfather, and A Simple Plan.

Some of my favorite TV shows are: Firefly, 24, The Sopranos, and the new Battlestar Galactica (yes, I know, I'm a geek).

Some of my favorite music is: Tom Waits, Elliot Smith, Portishead, Morphine, Calexico, Miles Davis, The Bad Plus, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Rachmoninoff.

Some of my favorite books are: The Sparrow, Ender's Game, War and Peace, Wicked, Catch-22, and 1984.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once summoned the courage buried way deep down in my toes and actually called that girl I had taken a fancy to back in high school.

Teach, Learn, Share

I offer tango to all comers. I've been dancing for 4 years or so, and while I can't claim to be any good, I'd love to share what I can.

One thing I would really like to learn is how to DJ. I've been working on DJing tango music for a while, but I would love to learn how to work with electronic, drum'n'bass sorts of stuff. You know, club-like.

Any cooking advice is always appreciated, too.
