ABOUT ME

Hey! My name is Jaime. My main passion and main focus in my life right now is my art. I am a practicing artist who makes sculptures and installations as well as does some freelance design work. I grew up in a small town called Westerville which is a suburb of Columbus, Ohio. (no I don't live on a farm!) Columbus is a diverse city with great hangouts..food!..shopping and to too many people..the most important, home of the Ohio State Buckeyes! I attended college at MICA, which is an art school in Baltimore, Maryland. I was living in Baltimore, Maryland for about 5 years before embarking on my travels. In May, I graduated with my Masters of Teaching in Art so now I am ready to embark on my next journey!

Brazil has been my first country to visit outside of the United States and my first real travel experience alone. It has really opened up my thoughts about the world. I have loved every second of it and really feel like when you are traveling, you learn the most about yourself.

A little bit about my time in Brazil...

In Fall 2008 I had the chance to live in Rio de Janeiro for two months with my family and had a wonderful time getting to know my relatives here and see all the touristic sites around this marvelous city! Since, I have returned back to Rio and have been living there for an extended amount of time. (July 2009- November 2009/Feb 2010- May 2010) This second trip, I got involved in the CS community with Rio and it has been so helpful. During my time here I have visited some major cities in the country but have dedicated most of my time to familiarizing myself with Rio. I have a relative living here tha is an artist too and she has been teaching me marquetry work with wood. I love spending hours in the studio creating and experimenting with materials.

As of now, I am planning on working at UFG within the Art Department from September until December 2011. I am looking forward to another experience in Brazil.

To meet exciting and fascinating people that share similar interests and want to meet new people. I love sharing Rio with people. For now, it has become my home. Any opportunity I have to do so, I am more than willing. Each individual I have met has had amazing stories and travels to share. I love to hear what other people are working on or where they are going on their path in life.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had the pleasure of staying with Ana Paula in Belo Horizonte, on a trip I took to Minas Gerais. I had a wonderful time meeting her friends and family as well as learning about Mineiro culture. Everyone was very welcoming and open to helping me any way possible. I found this to be very sincere. We instantly got along and enjoyed many trips around BH.

Musica, film e libri

Music has been a large part of my life with my brother and father being musicians. It has allowed me to enjoy all different kinds of music. My brother plays in a metal band while my father plays in a cover band. Here is a list of a few of my favorite artists or what I am listening to right now..it changes all the time..
