About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Gather some life experiences, meet interesting people, and see some cool stuff while I wait for the economy to pick up so I can get a job

ABOUT ME

I am currently studying to be an aerospace engineer and will have my degree...sometime after I can finish my senior project. I don't have a job lined up after that yet so I want to take the time to travel and experience everything that goes along with traveling when you are young.

My ideal career would be to do something significant to help the future. When I am ready to retire (or it looks like I am not making a difference when I am working) I would want to do something that helps people now, such as join the Peace Corps. When I feel I have made a difference, I would spend some "me" time and learn a new trade. I never want to stop learning.

PHILOSOPHY

My two principles are: do what makes you happy and make a positive impression on the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am new to CS and have not hosted or visited anyone yet. I first thought of joining to save money on a future trip to Europe, but after seeing what CS is all about I'm even more excited to participate.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

No experiences through CS thus far. I'm hoping to change that in the near future!

Interests

I love watching movies (and some TV) and I am known to quote or bring something up that I have seen when normal conversation reminds me of it. I also enjoy reading, but don't read as often as I should. I think part of why I enjoy the two so much is being able to forget everything that is going on in my life, if for a short time.

I also enjoy playing golf, rock climbing (though I haven't done much of that and never a real rock), roller coasters, organizing and cleaning when I am in the mood, and trying or learning something new.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I enjoy pretty much everything (especially comedies) but I've taken a particular liking to Disney, anime, Quentin Tarantino, and Guy Ritchie movies. But my favorite is probably The Fifth Element.

Music: Again, I enjoy a variety. Country and "Top 40" aren't really my thing though. I mostly listen to rock/alternative types, but I love being introduced to new music.

Books: I love sci-fi, fantasy, and historical fiction. I think it's the being transported to another time/place - something completely out of the now - that is so mesmerizing. Some of my favorites are Stranger in a Strange Land, Ender's Game, and Shogun.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

As far as sights go, the US has a lot to offer and I have been fortunate enough to have seen many of them. (Yosemite, San Francisco, New York, Zion, The Grand Canyon, Canyon de Chelly, Carlsbad Caverns, The Petrified Forest, and Bryce Canyon).

As far as people and activities go, the most amazing thing I have seen is kids being smart. I worked a summer at a sort of Science/Space Camp. The kids were given an activity each day (like build a car/rocket/etc.) and the materials needed and then set to work. Some activities required giving them more direction than others, but I was always impressed with their ideas. Not to mention loving them for giving up some of their summer to do more learning.

Teach, Learn, Share

Carpe diem! Take risks, push yourself, and seize the opportunity.

It's okay to be selfish, but not inconsiderate. Make a positive impression on the world and be happy!
