About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To give all that I have and take what I can get.

ABOUT ME

I´m a naturally curious person and I like learning about other people and other cultures. I´ve also been really interested in languages and linguistics lately, and I would like to learn more languages if I could. Although I´m from the United States, I probably feel a stronger connection to my home state of California, and Northern California, to be more specific. I´ve been studying and living in Barcelona for about nine months now, and at this point I feel as though it is my home. I´ve had the chance to travel to many different European countries, and that has motivated me to continue traveling through this website. Sadly, my travels within Spain are still pretty limited, which I´d like to fix.

PHILOSOPHY

Everything has its natural life, a beginning and an end.

I'm a stubborn optimist: yeah, life is suffering, humanity's cruelty has no limit, the only order we know is chaos, blah blah blah. The trick is to enjoy yourself despite all that shit.

Cultures can be unique and distinct from one another due to situational factors, but we're all, as people, are fundamentally cut from the same cloth. Traveling has taught me that.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well, I just joined it, but I hope to participate by traveling and hosting people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Well, my roommate Andrea has hosted several couchsurfers since I've been living with him and I always enjoyed meeting them and helping them (however little I could) to enjoy Barcelona more.

I also just had my first real couchsurfing experience staying with my new friend Richard in Paris, and it was really great. I got to meet an actual Parisian (surprise: they're incredibly nice!) and see the city a bit through his eyes. What more could I ask for?

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a huge music obsessive and I like basically any kind of pop music from rock to hip-hop to electronica, but favorites are indy/alt rock bands from the US/UK: Pavement, the Smiths, Joy Division, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Radiohead, Pixies,
the Velvet Underground...

Although I don't read enough, I really like the literature of authors like Kurt Vonnegut, Ernest Hemingway, Haruki Murakami, Vladamir Nobakov, Albert Camus and Franz Kafka. I've also started to read Spanish literature a bit, and I really like Jose Saramago (I know he's Portugese, but I'm reading him in Spanish, sorry).

I'm not as into film, but I really like all of Woody Allen's movies, and I'm big fan of all the Samurai movies by Akira Kurosawa.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I've never been a big fan of practical skills, but I can proudly(?) say that I have plenty of esoteric knowledge to share: Japanese animation TV shows, American counterculture movements from the Beats onward, 1980's British rock groups... I'm a fountainhead of useless facts.
