ABOUT ME

I am a poorly-traveled American who enjoys learning about other countries and cultures on a first-hand basis. I am originally from Youngstown Ohio, and lived in Columbus Ohio for 8 years for college and medical school. I am in the process of settling in to Pittsburgh, PA, USA for the next 3-5 years for residency.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that everything is interconnected and interdependent on every level, and that you have to know as much of the story as you can before you can begin to understand anything. I try to apply that in everything I do, which is why I am going into general practice as a Family Physician.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just joined. Heard about it from a friend when I told her I was coming to Europe in May 2009. Once I get settled in, I will have an extra bed and futon, so those will be open.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None, so far, aside from attending a quiz bar even while I was in Paris and happening across a bunch of zombies in Prague.

Pretty much all of each category, except "pop country" in the music category (Willie, Johnny, Waylon, and the 3 Hanks are awesome, though).
In movies, I like comic book adaptations, comedy, horror, and pretty much anything else. Some of my favorites are Lord of the Rings (3 extended versions in a row makes for a great all-day keg party/movie marathon), Shawshank redemption, the Adventures of Baron Munchausen, and Princess Bride
In music, I am all over the place. I have been loving bluegrass (bill monroe, doc wastson, ricky skaggs, del mccoury, alison krauss) lately, but also have a lot of punk/hardcore (ignite, avail, boysetsfire, h2o, afi), jazz (coltrane, miles davis, dizzy), and...well, anything else.
Books: I'm always reading something, and always looking for suggestions. anything in literature/mythology, philosophy/religion, science/medicine, or whatever else

Sitting out on the atlantic coast of Eleuthera in the Bahamas, listening to the waves and staring at the stars all night, and then watching the sun rise over the ocean, is definitely up there.
