About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to be on 1st hot air balloon flight ever in Cuba and fly in Cappadocia, Turkey

ABOUT ME

I think that life is a beautiful mess of opportunities.
Everyone has a story to tell, and I love to hear them. One CSer once described me to another CSer by singing the first few lines of Tom Petty's Free Fallin'. I find this frighteningly accurate.

I've lived in Austin TX for 5 years now (which is pretty perfect for me since it's the live music capital of the nation) but already itching to travel again! There goes the nomad in me...

In college I was a research scientist. Now,work for Whole Foods Market as a Product Developer getting paid to basically eat for a living! I am also an entrepreneur and independent business owner outside of my "job".

I have traveled: China, Canada, England, Scotland, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, Turkey, Greece, Albania, Puerto Rico

PHILOSOPHY

1)"It is nothing to die; it is frightful not to live.
Jean Valjean - Les Miserables"

2) "Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.
Gil Bailie"

3) Those who wait for perfect weather will never plant seeds; those who look at every cloud will never harvest crops. - Ecclesiastes 11:4

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have couchsurfed 9 times now with some amazing people in Europe and have hosted around 45 people in my home and twice that if you include those surfers that I have taken out for coffee/drinks, amazing concerts, went dancing, and shown them around the city! I am also active in the local Austin CS community and have hosted 2 large potluck lunches for the local CS community. I can't get enough! Love it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Usually on meeting CSers, I never feel as though I'm meeting complete strangers but rather friends that I just haven't seen in a really long time! I no longer use the word "strangers" and instead say "future friends".

What I've learned through all of my travels: Places are just places. It is the people that make them come alive and give them character and flavor. So, cherish the friendships you make and relationships you establish along the way. The scenery will always be beautiful but the people and what you learn from each other are even more precious.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I taught English in "real" China (non-Westernized China) for a whole summer. I woke up every morning, looked out the window, and still couldn't believe where I was. It was very surreal.

My friend Henry (who I met through CS) and I snuck 3 CSers I was hosting into the super exclusive Perez Hilton party during SXSW one year and we saw Snoop Dog and Courtney Love perform from the front row.

Flown hot air balloons in Albuquerque, NM.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach you how to do the whole Thriller dance, basic Mandarin Chinese and about the tones of the language or how to play guitar/read music.

I love learning new languages. Am still trying to master my Chinese and beginning to learn Czech and Italian.

Countries I’ve Visited
