TWO POINTS OF SAIL:

close-hauled -- use the main sheet to bring the sail in as near to the boat as possible, narrowing the angle between the sail & the direction of the wind.

running -- almost the opposite of close-hauled - let the sails out all the way and make sure the you're steering the boat so the wind blows from behind you; almost like flying a kite!
