ABOUT ME

I'm a funny, adventurous, creative, dorky, pie-baking, booty-shaking lass with three brothers and some cowgirl boots and an endless curiosity about people and they way they talk and live and think about things.

This summer I'm traveling and moving house but as soon as I have a couch again, you're invited!

PHILOSOPHY

I believe firmly in people being nice to each other. City living challenges my faith, but traveling always restores it!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hope to meet some great people who love traveling too and have funny stories to tell.

I grew up in an oceanside tourist town - a really beautiful area that was quiet and isolated most of the time but turned into a frenzy two months of the year. The economic disparity and perception of privilege developed into a really fierce localism: "tourist" was a very dirty word. When I grew up and left to travel, I wanted to see how people really lived in different places, how the locals spent their time, the idiosyncracies of daily life. When I go somewhere new I like to visit the grocery store and the pharmacy. I like to make friends and hang out and make food and tell stories. I like to travel by volunteering on a farm or a workcamp and making dessert for people and laughing about things.

I went swimming in the Carribean and bright little fish jumped out of the water and all around us.

Baked Alaska is a type of cake with a hot outside and frozen inside. It's a miracle of science and deliciousness. (1) Make a layer of cake. (2) Squish ice cream into a cake pan and stick it in the freezer til it's really hard. (3) Make meringue by whipping egg whites, sugar, and cream of tartar til they're stiff. (4) Put the ice cream on top of the cake and smear meringue around the top and outside of the whole thing. Stick it in the hot oven til the meringue is almost brown (a couple of minutes). Magic surprise! Amazing cake!
