About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Life mission is to volunteer all over the world, possibly join the circus, understand bird language, build a tiny house. The list goes on...

ABOUT ME

I love community, strengthening community, and finding ways to encourage openness in said community through crazy activities. Good fun for all. I used to volunteer for an organization that puts on the regional Bioneers conference (look it up, it could be life changing) that promotes innovators in fields that are providing solutions to the problems the world is facing today. I love the mountains (lived there), I love the desert (living there), love climbing, mountain biking, knitting, creating from scratch, process rather than product. I love art, though I'm not sure I'm good at it myself, and new experiences all the time. I am inspired by the creativity and individuality of everything on the earth. And am more inspired, and jump around like a little kid, when I meet others who embody that inspiration. I also adore tiny houses in a way that borders on unhealthy, and own a yurt, but still want to build a tiny house. Who wants to start a tiny house village?

PHILOSOPHY

I want to live a life that is so filled with inspiration that I nearly explode from joy. Nearly. I want to keep that inspiration nearby so I always know that it's there, and hopefully inspire others to find their elation.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So far just by browsing in awe of so many open people willing to give some of their space! I have loved every chance I get to host. It's like traveling while at home. So great!

-Update- I've hosted and finally surfed, it's amazing! I love that hosting satisfies my travel bug by bringing the traveling to me. I've also attended a local CS gathering, which I plan to do much more of in the future.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been a host a few times, surfer once. Sharing is awesome. I've had nothing but the most wonderful experiences so far, including a great night of Boggle!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was traveling in Nicaragua with a friend from Mexico I'd met at a hostel. We decided to try to cross from Nicaragua to El Salvador via boat, rather than the long bus ride through Honduras. We loaded into a bus, old American school bus, that took us four hours on a pitty dirt road to the northwestern peninsula of Nicaragua. We befriended a sweet older man, Cesar Antonio, who was helping everyone load their items onto the top of the bus. We told him about our plan, and he insisted that we stay with him and he would help us catch a boat. We got off the bus a mile or so from the tiny town on the coast, and meandered through jungle brush to a small shelter, four poles in the ground with a palm frond roof and only one wall. His family greeted us, prepared a meal from the garden, killed a chicken, and made us feel right at home. We stayed with them for three days, my friend going with Cesar Antonio everyday to attempt to catch a random fishing boat, and I stayed at the property and helped with what I could. We would sit out at night, discuss the stars, life, hardship, and listen to the small battery powered radio playing ranchero music in a far away, crackling tone. Cesar Antonio and his wife gave us their bed, a woodframe with bailing twine pulled across the frame to provide a matt, with only a potato sack over the twine, while they slept together in a potato sack hammock. We never caught a boat, and had to take the bus through Honduras, but that was the most beautiful act of complete generosity on unselfishness that I've ever experienced, and I only hope I can do the same for those I meet.
