About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To quietly and succinctly gain a mission.

ABOUT ME

I'm a creative grammar nazi and an erstwhile drummer with a stupid haircut who loves to cook. I collect toys and bad movies, and I love David Hasselhoff. No, really.

PHILOSOPHY

Avoid adulthood at all costs!

I love to work when I work (84 hour weeks) and play when I play (9 months off last year). I live my life with as much fun as possible, carefully balancing out my work, my play and my collections.

Oh, and when I think I'm in danger of becoming too serious, i watch a David Hasselhoff movie. He always puts it into perspective for me..

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surf and host.

As a collector of über expensive bits of small coloured plastic, I can understand the huge amount of trust that a host has to give to a random surfer with all their much loved things, and would never dream of breaking that trust.

I am always more than happy to contribute with food, wine or cleaning, or even walking a dog! I just want to meet cool cats, laugh and learn. What more do you need?

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I decided to hit California over 3 years ago. I thought of it one day, bought a Lonely Planet the day after and booked a flight the next! I never have a specific itinerary, and as a result ended up traveling from Tijuana to Vancouver and back.

I Couch Surfed for the entire time and met the greatest people along the way. I was welcomed with open arms and am eternally grateful.

The friends that I've made are so strong that in the last 3 and a half years, I've since spent 20 plus months in California over countless trips. Not only that, but I now live in LA - with my first ever hosts. How fantastic is that? All through Couch Surfing.

All of my hosts have become true friends to me. Not only that, but their friends have become true friends to me. My experiences have been so positive, that I would find it hard to express completely via this keyboard.

I do tend to meet a lot of people when I'm traveling and even before I heard of this site, I have been fortunate enough to have been invited temporarily into a lot of peoples' lives from Micronesia to Motherwell.

I'm not a typical traveler. I avoid 'attractions' like a chubby cat avoids dogs. I've been to London without seeing Big Ben, Belfast without having a Guinness and Vietnam without cruising the Mekong.

I did, however, spend a week in a 600 year old lords manor playing music, expanding minds and drinking Champagne champagne with a bunch of awesome hippies on the Scotland border. That, to me is traveling. I love seeing how people live. You can learn a lot - about them and yourself and of course: how to carve spoons.

Interests

I'm a collector in every sense of the word (ahem). I love cartoons, toys, pro wrasslin', good books, dancing, Atari 2600's, German beer and Aussie red wine. I grow a veritable forest of my own chillies and herbs, and bodily love my kaffir lime tree.

I can't stand Hollywood blockbusters, but can (and frequently do) watch independent and b-movies for days on end.

I've released 4 albums as a drummer and while I have always drawn (I used to be a graphic designer), I've recently gotten into digital painting. Feel free to check out my website.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love hip hop and hate rap.

I carry over 1000 virtual albums with me at all times, all of which I physically own.

I love music with a passion. I listen to the usual cliché of all types from Deftones to Soul Coughing, The X-Ecutioners, Gift of Gab, Kyuss, Fingathing, De La Soul, Primus, Dan the Automator, Rae and Christian, Glassjaw, Rufus Thomas, Infectious Grooves, People Under The Stairs, Rollins, Ugly Duckling, Lateef, Kylie Minogue, Chali 2na, the Red Hots, Brother Ali, Pre.Shrunk, anything by Mike Patton, a plethora of DJ's, the Fauves and Stevie Wonder, et al, et al. I seem to change genres in cycles and stages.

Except of course: David Hasselhoff. He never falls out of favour.

Obviously.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once did volunteer work on the islands of Chuuk and Pohnpei. Helped build schools and install plumbing. Oh, and became the mascot for the kids' volleyball team.

I also once saved one of my best mates' life. Despite the rumours, it was a mere coincidence that he owed me a twenty..

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach someone how to surf (the non-couch variety), or play the drums. I'm always keen to learn how other people cook.

Oh, and i can teach you how to place a 90 tonne rock crusher exactly where you want it - with nothing but your hands..
