Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

Live, love and learn.

ABOUT ME

I grew up in Southeast Alaska, attended college in Southern Oregon and ended up living in the Bay Area for a bit. After three months of working for CouchSurfing in the summer of '09 greeting backpackers daily at BaseCamp the travel bug got the best of me and I spent the better part of 2010 living in Ireland and Spain. 2010 - 2012 I lived in Alaska and traveled in Europe with an annual stop at Burning Man. During that time I backpacked around the world for six months, three of which I spent in Europe, mainly Spain and Italy, with a month in Australia followed by a month in Bali. I got engaged at the temple to an Aussie attending my third burn, and was married at Burning Man 2012. We currently live in Melbourne, Australia. At the moment, one of my great passions in life is helping organise Burning Seed, the Australian Burning Man Regional Event in early October. Ain't life grand?

PHILOSOPHY

It's cliché for a reason. The most relevant thoughts in life are often expressed in many different ways, many different times. These expressions inevitably work there way into our culture by finding seemingly innocuous ways of transmitting themselves. These transmissions taken at face value sound like clichés but in essence are bits and pieces of life's true wisdom. You can learn a lot if you simply pay attention.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For three months I worked for CouchSufing as the House Manager at BaseCamp in San Francisco. I used to live in Punta Umbria, Spain where I helped with CouchSurfing's European retail store and house managed for another property affiliated with CS. More than anything my participation these days involves letting those travelers and would be travelers I meet along the way know about CS. This world is a beautiful place and is ment for sharing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

More than I can count but few that I will forget. I started participating in CouchSurfing when Colleen Sollars introduced me to the site. Together we hosted a number of surfers in Ashland, Oregon where we met going to school. We took a few trips, one to an Obama rally in Eugene and another school related trip to Portland. Then it was on to Amsterdam for New Year '09. When I moved into BaseCamp to work for CouchSurfing this past May I had the opportunity as House Manager to play host to a number of surfers throughout the summer. I spent three weeks couchsurfing in Ireland and had a blast. I lived in Spain two years ago for five months hosting in a small town on the coast in the south of Andalusia meeting amazing people from all around Europe. Last year I flew for six month around the world surfing my way through Europe, Africa, China, Australia and Southeast Asia. After a bit of hosting this summer in Alaska I'm back surfing in Southeast Asia in Cambodia, Thailand and Bali before heading back down to Australia.

Intereses

Well first and foremost I'm a dork. I adore alliteration. I have at times valued education more than my daily necessities. I love to climb, run, hike, camp, bike, play bass, ice skate, and ski. Yoga rocks my world. As long as it's monkey yoga. I enjoy working on motorcycles and taking pictures of graffiti around the world. I've been working on computers in one fashion or another since I could walk. Ok, so maybe at first all I did was drool on them but I at least expressed an early interest. I took up the piano recently and have been getting more into photography. Keeps life interesting.

Música, películas y libros

I constantly have music in my head. I've either been singing or playing one musical instrument or another throughout my whole life. I recently taught myself how to play piano and it is the closest I have ever come to reproducing the music in my head out loud. Books have been a constant companion throughout my life starting around the fourth grade, especially while traveling. My interest run the gambit from trashy scifi space novels to ancient historic texts. More likely to find me reading the former in an airport than the latter but then again you never know. As far as movies are concerned scifi and horror are my bread and butter.

Algo increíble que he hecho

I feel privileged to have done and seen many amazing things in my short time on this earth. The movie Die Hard being a prime example. Other highlights include the Northern Lights in Alaska, Burning Man in Nevada, the Pantheon in Rome, the Cathedrals of Spain, the ancient city of Matera in Italy, surfing in Ireland, helicopter rides in Maui, Akihabara in Tokyo, Christmas in Spain and London, falling in love in Melbourne, being chased by monkeys in Bali and spending New Years in Argentina, Amsterdam and Australia. visited 18 states (8%)
