About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Giving back some hospitality I recieved myself.

ABOUT ME

I'm Olivier van Dijk (english = Oliver) and right now I'm a Student and part-time traveler/Disc Jockey/ (Wind)Surfer and i used to play alot of Basketball.

School takes a big bite out of my time at this moment but I like to spend the time I have as mutch as i can in the hobby's i mentioned earlier. Last summer (2009) I found out how great traveling can be, by traveling trough almost every country in Eastern Europe, and from that moment i try to travel as mutch as i can, like hitchhiking from Netherlands to Minsk (Belarus) or upcoming: Hitchhiking contest to Barcelona (Spain). Why do I like these Travels? Because I love to meet all the different people on this world. Everyone has a different story to tell and is in his/her way interesting. And couchsurfing is sutch a great way to meet people, mostly with the same mindstate.

While not traveling, I try to focus on Music, because that is one thing that can make me happy every time at the day, or sad. As a DJ I spin just the records I like, did'nt really choose a style yet. But i really feel a strong connection with music.

And then sports, mainly windsurfing. Wow thats really something. When i windsurf i really feel like nothing in the world can make me feel bad. I feel very free, relaxed and pumped at the same time. I don't know why, maybe it's the speed but I do know windsurfing is the best that ever came to me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Last summer of 2009 i went on a trip for the first time. This made my passion for traveling alot bigger. Me and a friend traveled trough Eastern Europe back then and on this trip i really learned what the word hospitality ment. One day we found ourselfs in a dark alley where my friend ripped open his foot on a fench, next thing we know the couchsurfer we where looking for came out of his house and spend almost all night with us in the hospital before we even could say hi. The other day we got picked up by a car while hitchhiking and next thing we know we where invited to stay there for 2 nights. And the all experiences like this made me really worship the existance of couchsurfing. And the way I participate is that I want to give some of that hospitality back, as mutch as I can.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have never slept somewhere by a couchsufer. I did meet some couchsurfers who showed me his/her town. First in Belgrade, where a very nice man showed us the places where only locals know of, my favourite, and shared alot of his philosophy. And that's what I really like of this meetings, just getting to know people and their perspectives on the world. Then one time in Chişinău , we wanted to sleep by a couchsurfer there but got interrupted by an injury of my friend (see the story about the hospital in 'how i participate'). And because of this we never slept there but we did got to know his person wich was very valuable to me. And then my Last experience with a couchsurfer in Misk. My friends where sleeping there and that ithe city and we had very interesting conversations. So all in all I had so many great experiences with couchsurfing.
