About Me
CURRENT MISSION Not to waste a single day We are a middle age couple with lots of empty rooms now that our children have left home (well, most of the time anyway). We have always been used to a busy house with lots of visitors including guests from other parts of the UK, Russia, Holland, Germany, France and it's too quiet now that we are on our own. Two of our sons have travelled around the world a lot for different reasons and lots of kind people have often given them a bed for the night so we would like to offer the same hospitality to others who are travelling. PHILOSOPHY 'The future is not a result of choices among alternative paths offered by the present, but a place that is created -created first in the mind and will, created next in activity. The future is not some place we are going to, but one we are creating. The paths are not to be found, but made, and the activity of making them, changes both the maker and the destination.' (Joseph Schaar). I believe in the importance of family (whatever shape it may be), being kind (never to be underestimated) and making the most of each precious day,
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We have only surfed twice and we have not been particularly good guests as we were just passing through. However, the people who hosted us have been very kind and understanding.
We have mainly hosted and have met some lovely, lovely people. One of our sons 'couchsurfed' a lot while travelling in Australia, NZ, South America, Canada and in Europe and people have been very kind and generous to him so we want to return the favour by doing the same for others.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We have always 'couchsurfed' but didn't know that's what it's called! As I have already mentioned, we've had lots of visitors over the last 30 years and always found somewhere for them to stay - even if it's a tent in the garden! We have had met some wonderful and interesting people through couchsurfing and really enjoy hosting. However, recently we have had one or two people request to stay and then not get back to us which just seems a bit rude. I WOULD BE GRATEFUL, IF YOU SEND A REQUEST AND DECIDE NOT TO COME FOR ANY REASON, THAT YOU WOULD PLEASE LET US KNOW.
Interests
We love sport - especially rugby - but any sport really. We were both Games Makers at the London Olympics and had a great time. It was wonderful to be part of it all. We love our family and spending time with them. We also enjoy all sorts of music and our garden. I love reading and belong to two local Book Clubs. I hope that doesn't sound too boring!!

Music, Movies, and Books
Philip really enjoys classical music but we will both listen to anything and may like it or not whatever style of music it may be. We have been to the Cambridge Folk Festival several times, I've been to see Pink in concert a few times and am a life long Elton John fan, we went to see Take That at Wembley together which was great and we travelled to Manchester just to see Brooke Fraser in concert. So really, anthing.....
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I once heard Nelson Mandela making a speach at a conference. Awesome and inspirational. An amazing man.
Teach, Learn, Share
Philip is a very keen gardener and grows lots of our vegetables. I like cooking but am not sure I could really teach anybody anything unless all they can do is boil and egg!!
