About Me
CURRENT MISSION
House hurricane refugees.
ABOUT ME
Kate is a musician yoga teacher mind body couples counselor; Roger is a professor of communication and jack-of-all-trades. Kate has stayed on a lot of couches and wants to offer one up now that she has one, and Roger is just curious about people.
PHILOSOPHY
Kate - "May I be well, may all beings be well."
Roger - "Art misunderstanding through calm, poise, and balance." This was in a fortune cookie I received at a restaurant. I feel it expresses something vital about the human condition.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
It's a very different experience to stay in a hotel versus being hosted. We are cultivating our sense of wonder and gratitude in meeting new people.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We have hosted mostly domestic surfers--one man who was bicycling across the country, another man who was studying the sociology of race, and more. Kate has stayed with lots of music lovers as she comes through their town to play music, and now with couchsurfing hosts. We love to travel and to host and generally to meet new people and to settle into cities with locals rather than primarily settling into tourist areas.
Interests
Making music, Zen Buddhism, yoga, social justice, sustainability, a good laugh.

Music, Movies, and Books
I Heart Huckabees represents a lot of what we like. Documentaries are good. Kate reads a lot of psychology. Roger reads a lot about media, culture, and philosophy. Music, we both like songwriter solo artist stuff: Tori Amos, Patty Griffin, David Byrne, Dan Bern, Paul Simon, Bjork.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Roger is amazed at the dizzying array of soda pop in the grocery store. Kate is amazed by the kindness of strangers.
Teach, Learn, Share
Basic meditation and yoga techniques. Easy and delish vegan cooking. Guitar. Piano. How to make a guitar out of rubber bands and a shoebox. Western philosophy. Eastern philosophy. Southern philosophy.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Yoga. Music. Funny jokes, some tasteful, some not.
