About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Survive being a first year teacher in bush Alaska and become a better naturalist.
ABOUT ME
I teach science, health, physical education, band (and whatever else they ask me to) for grades 7-12 in a small village school in bush Alaska. Not really a place I expect to receive any couch surfers, but I have a couch open just in case. I spent the first part of my life in Michigan, went to college there, and then decided I needed to get away. Never thought I would actually go this far away, but it has been a great experience. I'm learning a lot about Yupik Eskimo culture and how the "outside" has influenced it. The village is an interesting mix of Native traditions and modernity. If you ever stop by, I'll have some dry fish and seal oil for you.
PHILOSOPHY
Physical and spiritual generosity.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
So far my couch surfing experience has been impromptu. On my road trip across the country I didn't plan ahead enough to arrange people to stay with, so I found people as I went. Met some great people in Lincoln, NE that offered their couches on moments notice. I hope to give back through CS.
Interests
Pretty much all "outdoor" activities: hiking, camping, climbing, running, reading, kayaking, wandering, observing, etc...
I like new experiences and new people and the wisdom they bring.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Drove from Michigan to California on a motorcycle with a buddy (also on a motorcycle) with only enough money for gas. Beautiful scenery, beautiful people, beautiful world.
Recently decided to keep going west, and now I live in Alaska.
