About Me

CURRENT MISSION

We hope to live compassionately, helping to bring peace and justice to the world

ABOUT ME

We are a married couple with a shared passion for travel and a long list of places we hope to go and cultures we would like to experience. We also try to be of service to others in our everyday lives, our work, our spiritual endeavors.

PHILOSOPHY

To help create a world at peace, while enjoying the journey with others.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

After our first CouchSurfing experience we were hooked. This is the way people are supposed to relate to one another - open sharing, kindness. We are trying to clear out a spot for other surfers in our cozy little place, too. For now, usually coffee and local tips! But if you're stuck, contact us and we'll try to work out a space in the living/dining room. Please note that we keep a vegetarian household, so we ask others not to bring in meat/fish products (dairy is okay).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Stayed with an outstanding couple in Bellingham in 2009, and they are unknowing ambassadors for this group. Wonderful experience! Also, stayed with a new couchsurfer in his sweetie's home in Portland, and their hospitality was incredibly generous. We hosted Chuck at our home the previous year, and he's a great guest! Most recently we were the guests of an outstanding young couple in St. Petersburg, Russia, and we were glad to swap political opinions, cultural info, and to sample some unfamiliar foods.

Not an official CouchSurfing experience, I (Lin) nevertheless had an amazing adventure on a trip through Mexico and into Guatemala. Kept meeting kind people who literally made me a pallet on their floors.

Interests

Peace and justice activities, history, meditation, classical music, walks in nature, travel, meeting new people.

Music, Movies, and Books

While we're pretty open . . . Lin likes jazz and classical music; David plays old tunes on a recorder and relaxes to Strauss, his favorite composer. David favors non-fiction books while Lin also strayd into complex novels. We are both vegetarian - no meat, including seafood - but most of our family and friends are not, so we're not fanatics about what others eat. We do keep our house vegetarian, though.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Both of us (before we were married) had incredible, separate travels throughout India. Volunteering at Mother Teresa's in Calcutta was the most amazing experience!

I must admit that I (Lin) had a blast paragliding off the Andes mountains in Venezuela, too.

Teach, Learn, Share

Lin knows lots of resources for people who are low-income and/or homeless in our city, and a bit about the jail and prison system, too. She works at a nonprofit organization, is aware of social services, and housing development is her second language. David teaches political science and history at a local college, and is a font of knowledge in those areas. He also occasionally teaches a course in Buddhist Psychology, and enjoys sharing his knowledge about/experiences with Buddhism. Lin is a good cook, too, though seldom from a recipe. She likes opening the refrigerator after a farmer's market visit and just getting creative, and is always willing to help "invent" a meal!
