Overview
About Me
I'm a minimalist and passionate about sustainability. It's best to enjoy the small things. But I'm also very excited about traveling. To understand new cultures and see the diversity of nature.
I was born in the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada when I was 10. The nature there is beautiful. After finishing university, Jenna and I moved back to the Netherlands to work as process safety consultants in Groningen. Four years later we decided our passion is not in working for industry. We are now traveling before we move back to Canada. We are excited to build a Tiny House on wheels and start experimenting with permaculture. Interested? We'd love to share; to get insights from other people and to get other people excited about it too.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
A friend introduced me to CouchSurfing when I was visiting Calgary in 2009. I had a great time and CouchSurf every once in a while. It's the best way to travel to meet local people and to get a real feel for a place.
Interests
We enjoy "do it yourself" projects, to learn new skills and be more independent. Every year we have a vegetable garden regardless of where we are (at my parents place, on the balcony, in a community garden). We were both serious about sports when we were young, Jenna about volleyball and me about soccer (football) and table tennis. Now we still play for fun when we can. We like games, especially chess and Carcassonne. And we're always open to discovering new interests.

Music, Movies, and Books
Jenna and I have very different roots, but we love the music of both cultures. Jenna's hometown, Calgary, is known for cowboys, rodeo and country music. A complete opposite of the melodic and uplifting trance produced in Holland. And on top of that, we got excited about salsa music, learning how to dance as well.
Jenna and I both play keyboard/piano and Jenna sings. We've also been trying to learn guitar.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
My friend and I camped in the forest behind our university and did not enter our apartment for a week. It was great to relax during our busy school semester and get away from technology.
We love going backcountry canoeing and camping (Canada and Sweden) or hiking hut-to-hut (Austria and plans for New Zealand and Nepal). It's the best feeling to be self-sufficient and connect with nature.
