ABOUT ME

My work is a big part of my life. I do research on how people understand the sea and sea life in the Azores and in Newfoundland Canada. This work is based on supporting environmental justice and transformative education.

I miss teaching and my friends and family in Canada. But I love the big sky, the wind, the people, the goats behind my house, the taxi drivers who want to teach me more Portuguese word, swimming in the ocean in February... here in the Azores..

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I currently do allot of travelling for work so I am not always around to offer a couch. But I am a very social person and love having guests. I work with local fishing communities and environmental organizations, so I have some interesting contacts and knowledge different from most tourist stuff.Please do not send me requests for information about visiting the Azores. I am not a travel agent.Travelling from here often means spending a night or two in Lisbon, I would really like to get to know more people in Lisbon so that it could feel like my second Portuguese home.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

new to Couchsurfing but was SERVAS host and traveller for 20 years ~similar organization, probably the first in the world, developed from the Peace movement. I am also a SERVAS host and traveller. I have many good friends who i met from SERVAS.

I have had a couple of nice Couch surfing visits and have met other Couch surfer "hosts" but have yet to stay on someone else's couch.

Interests

Dancing (I don't get enough....), live music, cooking and eating good food with friends...drinking good red wine...laughing...kayaking...

many, broad, esoteric taste in music, movies and books....all time favourite book "Green Grass, Running Water" Thomas King ~ magic realism book by First Nations writer in Canada.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Learning to play music by ear...the amazing part wasn't the playing the music, but after a lifetime of not actually "hearing" the music, suddenly having another sense of hearing that I could never understand until I could "hear"!
