À propos de moi
CURRENT MISSION
Change the world by changing myself every breath at a time.
ABOUT ME
I get these ideas of who I am now and again, but.. honestly, I don't think I can describe myself. I am free spirited and believe in respecting the world in which we live on a universal level. I do believe in the existence of love and think it is one of the driving forces of good in the world. And I believe that it is only through a frequent and multi-level interaction with the world around us that we can really start to get closer to who we really are. And as Aldous Huxley put it: "Our goal is to discover that we have always been where we ought to be".
If all that stuff makes sense to you as well, then I believe we'll get along famously.
I believe life should be such that when you're old, people will listen to your stories and have a hard time believing you. As the words of a Russian kids' song go, "A life without adventure would bore us real soon,
so let the train roll, let it never stop" (my own very loose translation).
Oh, and if I seem a bit quiet or reserved sometimes, then.. well I guess that's just the Estonian stereotype kicking in :)
When it comes to travel, it's all about leaving your comfort zone, meeting the locals.
That's a bit about me then :/
PHILOSOPHY
Live and let live. The world is simply way too strange, weird and thus wonderous to frown about it any more than I already have. Enjoy life, enjoy the people around you and do not judge, but observe the evils, while trying to understand, and absorb the goods.
Life is what happens when your plans fail.
As others have said:
"Our goal is to discover that we have always been where we ought to be" - Aldous Huxley in The Doors of Perception. The amount said with this one sentence is, I find, baffling and I will keep it with me forever.
Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I want to help travellers have a good time when they visit my town, and chill out in other countries just the same way with others. I don't consider hosting as a service, as much as just friends crashing at my place, and I try not to do strict rules or anything like that.
Hosting hasn't really been a good option for some time, since I've been living with my family pretty far from the city for a few months now. However, after I get back from my next trip, I intend to get a new place of my own and start hosting again.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Surfed:
- 1 night spent in Prague with David
- 2 nights in Warsaw with Toniwalia
- 3 nights in Berlin with Miernik
- 6 nights in Dublin with Dommi
- 5(?) nights in Baku with Rashad
- 1 night in Ureki with Jason
Hosted:
- 2 Croatian girls. I myself had to be out of town at the time, but my flat-mate took them in and from what I heard they had a kickin' good time.
- Anthony from France for 5 nights.
- Huan, Tom and Hong from England for 2 nights.
Plus a few surfing requests I have sadly not been able to accept :(
Looking forward to future experiences though :)
Centres d'intérêt
Photography. I do have the pretention of perhaps getting published some day and I try to take photos every week. You can check out my photo blog at alterpilt.eksiil.net, or check out my profiles on flickr or 500px. Just search for my name and you should be able to find me. Haven't uploaded a lot of pictures, tho..
Music. Guess you can always check out my last.fm profile at http://www.last.fm/user/glurk. You give me a guitar and I can lose myself in them 6 strings.
History. Evolution. Psychology. Global development. And that obscure point where the four meet. Human behaviour: why we behave the way we do.

Movies.. oh, there are so many. Of directors Kubrick and Gilliam come to mind, though I always appreciate quality. Having said that, I do not like films that are exceedingly realistic that only deal with society's problems. Or films where the only goal the film maker had was to depress the viewers. The world has enough problems as it is, art is escapism. For actual world issues I'll watch documentaries.
Recent favourite films: 7 Psychopaths, Europa (von Trier), Diner, 12 Monkeys, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, La Jetee, The Legend of 1900, Easy Rider, Naked Lunch, Castaway On The Moon, Harvey, Dr. Strangelove, In The Name of the Father, Clerks, 12 Angry Men, Waltz With Bashir, Watchmen, Spirited Away, Mystery Train (Jarmusch), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, The Union: The Business Behind Getting High, The Four Horsemen, Occupation 101, The Perks of Being A Wallflower, Dirty Wars, Wristcutters A Love Story, the list goes on.
Books: the Moomins (T. Jannson), The Third Chimpanzee (J. Diamond), The God Delusion (R. Dawkins), Delfiinide Tee (I don't believe it's been translated, it's a book by Estonian author N. Baturin and it would probably translate as The Way of The Dolphins). Seitse maailma by Estonian travelling duo Avantüristid. The Master and Margarita by Bulgakov. 100 Years of Solitude by Marquez. Dance Dance Dance by Murakami, The Black Swan by Taleb, Russian Diaries by Anna Politkoskaya (RIP), The Angels Game by Zaf

Other than that.. I guess, bits of the guitar or mandolin, teach you some basic Estonian (in the spirit of http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Estonia#Origins_of_Estonian) and naturally give an insight into life in Estonia.
