About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To get out of my comfort zone, to stir up my life a little, and go see the world beyond the States

ABOUT ME

Once upon a time there was a little girl enamored with science and fixing things. The little girl grew up and had a chance to work abroad, so she packed her life into two suitcases and started from scratch. This unwittingly ignited a horrible case of wanderlust.

PHILOSOPHY

Treat others like you would like to be treated.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Now that I am back in Atlanta, I hope to get a little more involved with CS. Hosting isn't possible at the time, but helping folks experience Atlanta would be the most viable alternative.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My hosting experience has been great:

2 lovely Germans, a nice man from Brussels, and a fellow from Australia.

And in a recent trip to Athlone - the city where I hosted those lovely folks - I couchsurfed for the first time and it was incredibly fun and rewarding.

Interests

I enjoy dance. I love to watch any and all dance performances. Dancing isn't my forte, however. I am taking salsa lessons, though. So far, so good (I moved up into the intermediate class).

Sports are fun; baseball is a great game (St. Louis Cardinals--they're my boys), hockey, UFC cage fighting type of stuff gets me going.

I love looking up at the stars.

Cooking is another love of mine. I'm no chef, but I do love whipping something up in the kitchen. Cooking with other folks is a great experience even if what you make isn't gourmet. I can, however, make some mean chocolate chip cookies and a cheesecake if equipped properly. I adore learning new recipes, so if there is something that you love to make then let's get cooking.

Maybe this isn't an interest, but I am generally curious. I suppose that means that I'm interested in everything that I don't know about.

Music, Movies, and Books

(Favorite) Movies: The Blues Brothers, Sabrina, The Shawshank Redemption, Scent of a Woman, The Legend of 1900, Roman Holiday, The Princess Bride, Silence of the Lambs, Big Fish, I am also very fond of movies with explosions

Music: Post rock (Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, This Will Destroy You, etc.), Elliott Smith, showtunes, a little gangsta rap here and there, Sigur Ros, some electronica, blues, oldies, and I have a soft spot for Canadian folk music (Stan Rogers)

My favorite book is Catch 22. I've just recently fallen in love with The Alchemist. Neil Gaiman is a great--albeit dark--storyteller.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I would have to say that this stay in Ireland is it. We don't really do that sort of thing in my neck of the woods. As a matter of fact, I know some folks who have never even seen the ocean.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd like to figure out what I've been missing.

As for teaching, don't run with scissors.

To remove red wine from shirts, mix hydrogen peroxide and Dawn together and soak the affected area.

Countries I’ve Visited

France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States
