About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Find a balance in our new life in Barcelona.

ABOUT ME

All about us... Mmmhhh, well, it's difficult.

Daily life so far :
==============
Eva :
I used to be teaching French to dutch-speaking teenagers between 14 and 18 years old.
At the moment, I am teaching French as a foreign language to young children and adults, in Barcelona and around.
Interests: ceramics, practicing yoga, write, learn Spanish and then Catalan.
During the summer: trying to travel a lot, seeing friends and reading books.
Mission: to write!

Eric :
I used to work in the energy sector, checking if the power-plants are still safe in Belgium (they are not very safe, and it is why we are running away from this country!!!). I like mountain-biking, swimming, scuba diving, seeing friends, drinking beer, tasting coffee and trying to learn how to use a DLSR.
I am currently taking a break in my career, back to study!

Who we are :
============
Eva :
Some people think that I can be an "otaku", just because I'm fascinated by the Japanese culture, food, books and was learning the language as well.
And now I struggle learning Spanish and I am forgetting all the Japanese I once learned...
I'm a kind and quiet person, I like to meet new people, I try to always be enthusiastic, even if it is on a quiet way. I like nature (flowers, trees, panoramic views), the Ocean, but also to party and getting lost in big cities. Dancing under the stars on the beach is also my thing!!

Eric :
I am a quiet person who enjoys tasting a good cup of coffee in the morning and then having a ride on my mountain-bike in the woods of Brussels (when it is not a rainy day). But I also like being with people to share a good meal or have a drink. What else can I tell about myself...? I don't know why but I love SpongeBob and ostriches :)

====================================================

We shared the same travel project in 2012-2013 : seeing the world in a different way by travelling without too much plans but just enough to have no regrets. Taking time together, enjoying each new day of our life! We have met interesting people, because how could we survive 10 months together 24/24 without new horizons and people to share experiences :)
Now, it is time to move on, trying not to be sad but grateful for what we could see and do during this amazing journey.
That's our travel blog about this experience : trouvonslenord.tumblr.com
After 2 years working in Belgium, we are now living in Barcelona for 2 years, maybe more...

PHILOSOPHY

We think we still have to discover it.
To believe in yourself ?
"Even a journey of a thousand miles starts with a first step".

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We talk about CS to our friends and share the first experiences that we had with all the people we meet. We are trying to convince people around us that this is an amazing way to meet people while travelling.
As a teacher, Eva gave a course about CS to her students last year, telling them about CS and another way of travelling and they listened like never! Much more interesting than French literature...

We have hosted travelers we met ourselves while traveling, some of them met through CS others through shared experiences. We have hosted once someone we met through CS but unfortunately this person did not give us the opportunity to be the hosts we wanted to be (no contact with us at all...).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We don't have a huge experience in CS but all the people I (Eva) met during my trip in Japan a few years ago were amazing. It gave me confidence back in human nature.

Then, while we did CS as a couple, it was another experience. People are not the same when you are travelling alone or as a couple...
But it was always a great experience and we are glad we did it and really thankful to the people that hosted us along our way. Some of them have become real friends, and we are looking forward to see them again.

Interests

What do we like ?

Travelling, having dinners with family and friends, walking around in the night markets in Taipei (Eric), Literature (french, belgian, japanese... --> Eva), watching movies (slow, contemplative --> Eva / action --> Eric), watching the Ocean (Eva), to cook and taste new dishes (both of us!!!), dancing (Eva), yoga (Eva), spinning and snowboarding (Eric), scuba diving (both)...!

French Literature: Marie N'diaye, Jean Giono, Amélie Nothomb...
Movies: Kitano's movies; The taste of tea; Cherry blossoms; Almodovar's movies...
Animation.
Eva: I have to confess I started to enjoy watching Japanese drama's, with the bad excuse to learn Japanese that way ;-)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing ones are still waiting for us...

Teach, Learn, Share

Eva:
I am a teacher and I teach French as second language . I can teach you French too, with my bad English or in Dutch or very bad Spanish.
I have done Ikebana and Japanese classes, I always look forward to practice.
I have a new passion for wheel throwing and ceramics.
And two new languages are awaiting us: Spanish and Catalan!!!

I like to cook so I can teach you some Belgian specialties, and I always like to learn new things.
I have had a veggie garden so I can give you tips if you want to grow food, preserve food, live a healthy lifestyle...
Handcrafts, cooking, languages,...

Eric:
As an engineer I can probably teach some Mathematics or Physics. But I am not suited for teaching. However, I can share my (small) experience of my life. My motto is : "There aren't any problems but only solutions..."

I am eager to learn and to test new things. During our trips I had the opportunity to learn surfing, diving, to try a bungee jumping and to take beautiful pictures of daily life in each country.

My new life in BCN is quite different from our life back in Belgium.
This is probably temporary, so we try to enjoy every bit of it!
