CURRENT MISSION
To get through the day intact
ABOUT ME
I belong to a six-person "tribe" of CFA's (Come-From-Aways) living here in Newfoundland. We range in age from the young-at-heart to the truly immature. I'll let you figure out who is who.
*hint* I may have been labeled as a "mature" student while in University, but I was never one of the most mature!
I have to mention the language thing... We're an English-speaking household, I speak a little bit of German, and two of our family members speak anywhere between beginner and intermediate French. I'm a raw beginner... they're much more fluent.
PHILOSOPHY
Do I have a personal philosophy? Yes, I suppose I do. I'll have to think on this one a bit though, and try to articulate it a bit better than just a toss-off. Then again, maybe a toss-off will work too... After dinner.
Hey! Wait! Is that my philosophy? Make hay while the sun shines, never turn down a meal somebody else has cooked, try to make other people happy as long as it doesn't hurt you, but don't be a suck-up while you're doing it. Correct spelling mistakes as you go.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I love hosting! Being new to Newfoundland, I really love having people come out and share my enjoyment of its beauty. It's a ruggedly beautiful province, and we like to say that it's Canada's "Other" coast... this is for those who seem to think that the "West is Best." Come see the East!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We've had CSers hang out in our humble abode many times since we joined. We're still at it, so I suppose that means we're still enjoying it!
We like to share meals and will eat just about anything. It's great when those who stay a few days offer *nudge nudge* to cook.
We like spending time in our kitchen, turning it into a real party. Anyone handy in the kitchen or just plain willing to pitch in is welcome to extend their stay here.
Interests
Oooh.. the fun part! Things I'm interested in...
1. Books of any kind. I used to read the ingredients list on the peanut butter jars when I was a kid. Mom had to keep taking it off the table just to get me to eat.
2. Art. I don't "do" as much as I think I should, but I enjoy it immensely anyway. My ultimate great experience was a trip to Chicago in my senior year of University... We were ORDERED to go to the Art Gallery at least once... I went three times. I still think I missed some of it. CS someday? I've recently begun doing Pet Portraits, so I'm doing a lot of drawing these days! If you're interested, and if you Facebook, check out my Page: Charmed by Christine - Pet Portraits
3. Animals. We've got 'em because we love 'em. Most recent additions to the family are our darling "small mammals," Niki and Igor, a sweet pair of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and now Katniss, a sweet Yellow Lab X.
On the same note, I love checking out the local Zoo or Aquarium in whatever city I've been in.
4. Sunshine. Got sunshine? I'm in!
5. Shopping. Love it love it love it! Hey! Can I help it that I'm that kind of girlie-girl? I think not!
6. Knitting. Just learned a couple of summers ago (2009) and I'm still a rookie, but it's definitely at the top of my list in terms of sitting-around-time. (next to reading)
7. Dinnertime, so I have to go now. Okay, that tells you that I enjoy food.

Music, Movies, and Books
Yes. Yes. Yes. I like all of them.
I love watching movies. However, I don't like wasting my time watching a movie when something else beckons. Like a book that I really want to read! I like action adventure, drama, comedy, some documentaries and some chick-flicks... Pretty much anything and everything, but nothing in particular.
Books... I'm a sucker for romance, but never ever Harlequins. I have to draw the line somewhere. While I enjoy reading true-tales/real life, I enjoy fantasy and sci-fi much more. I love reading almost anyting to do with art. I'm not so fond of non-fiction novels.
Hey, what can I say... I'm easy to please, but some things should be easy! I'm a smart cookie, but the only stretching I want to do for now is on the carpet in front of the fireplace.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I can't think of anything amazing that I've ever seen or done in my life... boring, maybe? Ah well.
There is this:
While it's mundane for some, I get excited when I see whales in our bay. Nature amazes me and I wish it struck other people the same way. Our world is such a special place and too many people take it for granted.
Oh yeah, I'm still looking forward to seeing an actual moose on the loose! As long as I'm not in a car heading down the TCH at the time!
Teach, Learn, Share
Life's short. Grab it by the ... whatevers.
You never know when you'll see your last sunrise or sunset, so enjoy the ones you get.
Dance in the rain at least once in your life.
Breathe deep and embed even the most mundane experiences into your memory.
Life isn't about birth and death; it's about all the stuff in between.
