About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get to know our all the pleasures our new city, Baltimore, has to offer.

ABOUT ME

Jowita and I are a very happy and Adventurous couple on the hunt for new experiences around every corner we turn. We use our bicycles as our primary mode of transportation at home and when we travel. We have spent the last five years in Chicago working on some very large projects at the Field Museum of Natural History and the John G. Shedd Aquarium as designers, sculptors, and Lovers. Once we finished a huge project at the aquarium, we were both laid off, so we decided to hit the road to learn what we could as we rode our bikes from Poland to Istanbul, via the Adriatic, and the Southwest coast of Turkey. After we returned, and waded through some months of job searching, we have landed in Baltimore, for Chad to take a position at the local aquarium designing exhibitions.

We are lovers of food, music, drink, and conversation. Jowita is a master of baking bread at home, homemade yogurt (with fresh picked fruit or herb), and many many other wonderful goodies.

We are well settled into life in Baltimore City and have spread our home all over the city. We have a garden co-op in the Waverly neighborhood, a City Farms plot in Clifton Park, an art studio in Federal Hill, an office in the Inner Harbor, and a sculpture barn in Ruxton.....oh, and a rhinoceros along the Jones Falls River!!

Please take a look at our old blog if you want to get to know us a little more and see our photos from our recent cycling adventure.

PHILOSOPHY

Just as soon as the bird lands, it takes off again.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We use as many opportunities we get to promote an open door for travelers and explorers alike.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Wonderful! Has created some really amazing connections for us and a number of memorable experience!

Interests

We are interested in food, music, art and design, and love the outdoors. Chad comes from a small American farming community, and Jowita, from a small Polish farming community, and seeing as though we have been living in a big city for quite some time now, we are very nostalgic about farmsteads and the countryside. We love cycling and are using it as our tool for sights and experiences otherwise unknown to us.

Music, Movies, and Books

'2046', 'The Double life of Veronique', 'You The Living', 'Rushmore', 'Funny Face' 'Black Cat, White Cat' and oh so many more movies. Right now Jowita is reading 'Farm City' by Novella Carpenter and Chad is reading 'The wind-up bird Chronicle' by Haruki Murakami. Our music choices are always varied, but we often turn to PitchforkMedia.com for new tunes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We were invited to a Hindu wedding party in Trinidad by a woman we met on the airplane. We were greeted with open heart to their party, ate amazing food on banana leaves, and the next day invited to attend a very small Hindu Puja, led by the woman's young brother. It was unforgettable.

Two weeks with Necip in Guzelcamli, Turkey and a week with the Aslans in Istanbul!!! Oh, and cycled from Poland to Istanbul, yeah that was pretty great!!

Teach, Learn, Share

We can teach anyone how to make sushi, while the ingredients might be hard to find, We can work something out. We can share our knowledge of cycling, and teach some maintenance basics. We would love to learn new recipes and about new cultures. We also love learning about different ways of farming and practices.
