About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to hug the world back

ABOUT ME

I have a confident stride, which often leads fellow concerned pedestrians to believe that I am walking into traffic.

Anti-consumerism.

PHILOSOPHY

Give and take.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Mostly surfing. I am absolutely open to hanging out with couch surfers if I've got the time! I have hosted only once, but plan on hosting and meeting more cs'ers once I've got a proper space in which to do so.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first experience was couch surfing in Montreal-which was eye-opening for me, in the sense that I was able to experience a total stranger opening up their home and life to myself. It was mind blowing in the sense that the way in which I had conceptualized traveling has been forever altered.

Update:
I hosted a few wonderful Swedish women (first time hosting) back in February 2012--I can't wait for another opportunity to do it again!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like Belle & Sebastian, Joanna Newsom, A Tribe Called Quest, Bjork, Louie Armstrong, Fugazi, Celia Cruz, Mozart, lots of stuff.

I like non-fiction, fiction, lots of philosophy and language books, recipe books. Right now, I am enjoying the Oyster and Eagle by Multatuli.

I like intellectual films, silly films. Films that do not reinforce or glorify problematic notions of gender/culture/etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once jumped off of a 50-60 ft (?) cliff, into water.
Cannot stress HOW terrified I am of heights.
It wasn't a big deal for anyone else who witnessed it.
A diamond ring was the reward for my bravery (and loss of a cheap plastic one), but i don't know whether or not it was real.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can prepare very simple, cheaply assembled, mostly vegan meals. This has been largely from circumstance, but also by choice--with pleasant results.

I am always interested in learning other languages or other mediums of communication. I can speak a bit of Spanish and German; currently teaching English at a Mandarin immersion preschool which has introduced me to the language.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Philippines
