ABOUT ME

The Brown House is just that, a big brown house in the Montford area in Asheville. Even though there are 8 people living here, we still have plenty of room for surfers! We're currently working on a couple projects around the house to make everything a little more sustainable, a couple examples include: rain barrels to water our gardens, chickens in the backyard for eggs and fertilizer, and (hopefully soon) a couple of communal bikes to cut down on our driving (and give couch surfers a way to get around while they're here!). We don't really party super hard at the house and ask that surfers respect this as well when they're here. If you want to get involved while you're here, we're always working on projects and love getting help, teaching others and learning from others ourselves. Some of us are musically inclined and have banjo, mandolin, flute, guitar and sitar players in the house if you want to jam. Some of us are vegans, some of us are vegetarian, some of us are freegan and some of us are omnivores, so we cook a pretty wide range of food and some of us have pretty strong opinions about our dietary choices. PHILOSOPHY

Here at the Brown House, we think (I think I can speak for everyone on this?) that treading lightly on the planet is generally a really really good idea. Occupations/academic majors/etc. in the house range from doctor to biologist to philosophy to chemistry. Like we said before, some of us are vegan, some are freegan, some are vegetarian, some are omnivores and we all have specific reasons for our dietary choices. Animal rights, local food, community, world hunger, alternative economic theories are all reasons why we eat the things we eat. I'm sure there are more things to say here but I think I should let other people in the house add their opinions rather than hogging up all the space!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I think its safe to say that everyone in the house has couch surfed at least once, and up until a couple months ago, we had surfers here all the time. I'm not exactly sure why the hosting levels went down, but now we're trying to get back on the project and are really psyched to meet cool new people.

Sustainability, playing music, D.I.O. (do it ourselves), biking, hiking, camping, partying, good food, listening to music (everything from fugazi to Bach to Bill Monroe to Mos Def to Michael Jackson... and sometimes Cher), the planet, our dog Grusha, our cat Necotron 3000, the list goes on and on.

Wanted: Urban homesteading techniques. Probably some other stuff but I can't think of anything right now.
What we got: Most of us are pretty good at pole dancing on the pole we've got in the living room. I don't mean to brag, but we're pretty good at cooking. Music theory. Tarot Cards (but we always want to learn more!).
