ABOUT ME

We are a family with two lovely children and the funniest cat called Koos, we are originally from South Africa and now on an assignment in Nanjing, China.

Gert has been with an international company for many years, thus the assignment, it meant a lot of leisure time on my hands and so I got to do some surfing around and found this nice website!

We love wine, good food and good company. What are we looking for in Couch Surfing ?

Just tell us why you are here, who you are and those really funny things that happened to you while traveling like when you missed your bus, photos being taken of you while sleeping in a train full of illegals... But what we are NOT looking for are free 4 all travelers, if you are just looking for free accommodation, our house will not be the place for you! We will be a bit picky in the guests that we accommodate. We are looking for more than people sleeping on our couch but for world travelers to share their experiences and become future friends. We are definitely not the stay out late party lover kind of couple. We do understand that when you are traveling in bigger groups that it might be a bit difficult for you to interact with us as a family but please... put in a bit of effort, our kids love to meet new travelers and get really disappointed when you leave after 3 days and not spending 5 minutes getting to know them, you are representing more than just your country when you walk into Gert and Aletta's lives!

Seeing that CS is being flooded with too many ignorant abusers who are only looking for free accommodation without giving anything in return, I'll say it anyway: CS is a privilege, not a right. If we let you stay at our place, I expect you to be polite, clean and a user of COMMON SENSE.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Mmmm... our two children, swimming with Dolphins in the ocean!

To travel, the first time i got on a plane, I still have that feeling in me even now after so many years of traveling, I cannot wait to see what is new and different when that plane touch the ground! Travel is an incredible experience!

Teach, Learn, Share

Gert loves to BRAAI (Barbecue) and would love to try out your specialty! Share our fav recipes with you and yours with us! We will share our knowledge of our mother country with you, food and some great "slang" words, things you would have never known and then,share our now, new country with you!
