About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Eat, Drink, Make My Ancestors Proud!

ABOUT ME

I'm from a small indigenous village called Egegik, Alaska. I love being outdoors, in the air, under water, on the water and just about anywhere that life’s path leads. I think it's critical to a person's well-being that he/she has a rad adventure every once in a while.

PHILOSOPHY

I like to think that every experience is a good experience, whether it's good or bad.

One of my favorite sayings is, just wing it. Living vicariously in that manner lead me to experience some of the most incredible places and meet some of the most amazing people. When you can't wing it, you gotta plan for spontaneity.

I also like the saying, when you don't know something, learn it, and stick to what you know.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love to travel, when I do I try to surf/meet with locals of places I go. I also host whenever I can. To make connections and associate with people from different backgrounds and cultures is a priceless experience. No matter what, in the end we all have something of value to share. That is what I love about the couchsurfing project.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In 2006 a friend and I were on a night train from Paris to Barcelona. We had the train schedule from the year before and didn't know it, so the train stopped in Montpelier. It was close to Christmas and was around 1 am. All the hotels and hostels were full. My plan was to bar hop til' 5 then sleep in the train station. My buddy didn't like that idea so we checked out one more hotel. They were full, in fact the hotel owner offered a water closet for 55 euro, to which we humbly declined. As we were being turned away, a couple that just happened to be walking down the street stopped and said, "do you need a place to stay"? They brought us to their flat, made us tea, we exchanged drinking game information and...it was awesome! Totally blew my mind! As they went to bed they told us to just lock up on the way out and enjoy the trip. Before they retired, I said to them, "thank you so much for taking us in, but why would you take in two random strangers off the streets at 2AM? You could have been robbed or worst?!" to which they replied, "we're couchsurfers". That was my first couchsurfing experience and I've been diggin' it ever since.

Interests

The great outdoors, movies, books, music, exercise, traveling, people from different places and cultures, you name it i'm interested in it. Recently really liking ancient archeology! Out of place artifact stuff. I've made a few trips specific to investigating ancient sites and have learned a lot.

I also am a huge believer in mediation. I’ve learned so much about how powerful the mind body connection is and how we truly are a species with amnesia. The Dali lama said, "if every child was taught to meditate, violence would be extinguished in a single generation".

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a dvd collection that puts the pyramids to shame, though now they're all in boxes...I've also got a variety of books. I've accumulated quite a library by this point. If you like music I've got a bunch. Sharing is caring I like sampling others music as well!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was in Barcelona at this hostel, I saw this elder outside with a cane walking through this wind storm. He was holding his hat on his head and struggling with the wind. Suddenly, a powerful gust blew his hat though his fingers and right of his head! I bolted straight out the hostel chasing his hat. After nearly a minute in a full on sprint, I finally chased it down. To this day, I've never met a more appreciative man and it's one of my fondest memories.

Teach, Learn, Share

We all bring something different to the table. With exchange, we learn from one other. If you'd like to know, search it out. One of the purposes in life is meant for the attainment of awareness and for internal and external exploration. Exploring the world is important, it can yield dimensions of great vastness in extreme quality. However, any adventure that the world presents is dwarfed when compared to adventure of exploring ourselves. The very word, mediation, means to become familiar with. Exploration of the physical world is important, but when we combine the exploring of ourselves with it. The world, all of its mysteries, all of the majesty within it, become filled with wonder. I started traveling to find myself. It wasn’t until some years later that I discovered the greatest adventure, is the inner journey.

Teach.Learn.Share.
My Uncle Jack said he was walking down the street when a homeless man held a cup out with the word "Tips" on it. Jingling change around the guy said, "Give me a tip!" My Uncle Jack says, "I got a tip, don't look directly into the sun, you'll burn your eyes out".-Wisdom from Uncle Jack
