PHILOSOPHY

Avoid personal philosophies: life is too varied and rich to be approached with a single, general creed. Just be thoughtful and treat everyone with kindness.

Interests

Good books, good food, good friends.

Also the game of Go, Argentine tango, math education, running, solving puzzles, playing guitar badly, cooking, drinking beer, and last but not least, traveling.

Books: Anything by Nabokov, Bulgakov, Stoppard, and Coetzee. The stories of Borges, the plays of Ibsen, the humor of Shakespeare, and the wisdom of Dr. Seuss.

Music: Harry Connick, The Beatles, John Prine, Crash Test Dummies, The Band, Beethoven, DJ Shadow, Chuck Berry, Verdi, Piazzolla, Ravi Shankar, Liszt and too many others to list.

Movies: Pulp Fiction, anything by the Cohen brothers, Dr. Strangelove, Spirited Away, La Strada, Rocco and His Brothers, Being John Malkovich, anything by Kurosawa, Woman in the Dunes, To Live, Andrei Rublyov, anything by the Monty Python, The Decalogue, Delicatessen, and on and on...

In Russian: gde zdes tualet?
You can use the Russian in any of the Slavic countries and be understood. In Western Europe, just use English :)
In Hebrew: eifo hasherutim?
In Israel, almost everyone understands English as well.
