Overview
About Me
I went back to school after working for many years. I'm currently finishing up a PhD in History.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing is an amazing platform through which I've met a number of interesting people and attended a host of memorable events. I love the site because, unlike other internet forums, it pushes you back into the real world after making contacts online. I've really marveled at its ingenuity when driving into a city that I've never visited in order to stay with a person I've never met. The apparent purpose of Couchsurfing aside, what really keeps me here are the (sometimes ad hoc) communities it helps to engender. I think we need more websites like that.
Interests
How to live, how not to live. What we might know, what we probably will never know. Nature, society and the mind; seeing our place within each. Forests and churches. How we gather and disperse: cities, suburbs and the rest. Books. The night. Ritual and improvisation. The magic of language. The shifting of consciousness. Plant-based diets. Animal souls. Anti-isms-ism. Scientia. Religio. Jazz music. Foreign films. Virtue. The sublime. Running. Art and techne. The sword and the cup: solve et coagula.
