About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to see more of the world and meet interesting people

ABOUT ME

I've just finished my first year at Leicester University and found it easy to make friends thanks to my laid-back attitude and likable personality. I have a good sense of humour and enjoy meeting new people, especially if they have a different perspective on the world to my own.

PHILOSOPHY

life is complicated, sport is simple.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm hoping to tour some of Eastern Europe in early September with a friend, especially countries that would be considered 'off the map' in terms of holiday destinations.

Interests

A lot of my interests involve sport somehow, I've got into rowing since being at university, but before then I was into mountain bikes and road bike racing. Climbing has always been something I've enjoyed, pushing myself physically and mentally, with the ever-present danger that gravity will some day get the better of me!

Music, Movies, and Books

A-Level English sparked my interest in war literature and there's hardly a war-related novel I'm yet to read. My favourite books include The Catcher In The Rye, Of Mice And Men, Day Of The Triffids, American Psycho and A Brave New World.

I listen to a wide range of music, ranging from 60s/70s rock to some more recent drum and bass/electro and everything inbetween.

Since going to university, my knowledge of films has increased a huge amount, I enjoy all the cult classics (e.g. Pulp Fiction or Catch Me If You Can), but also some more niche art films by producers such as Gus Van Sant.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I flew to America when I was 17 and took part in a tall ship race from Rhode Island to Nova Scotia (Canada). We were racing at sea for weeks on end through very rough seas and difficult conditions. I now work on the tall ship Stavros S Niarchos as a deckhand and hope to join a voyage around christmas time.

Teach, Learn, Share

The main skill I would be able to pass on to other people is the ability to play brass instruments - I taught privately for many years and played lead in lots of bands.

Also, being able to juggle and ride a unicycle is a useful skill that people always want me to teach them!
