About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm cycling across six continents, interviewing marginalised people with health problems and working on a book.

ABOUT ME

I've been traveling around the world on Crazy Max (my bicycle) for almost six years. So far I have cycled just over 80,000 km, and I'm almost home.

So I'm a daydreamer with an adventurous spirit!

I'm also a freelance travel writer and blogger - http://www.cyclingthe6.com

PHILOSOPHY

Say "yes" to things as much as possible and life becomes more interesting.

Interests

DJ-ing, collecting tunes, scratching, assorted turntable tomfoolery and promoting live music events... but that was all before I set off on my bicycle.

Nowadays - Adventure and immersing myself in the natural world. Cycling, treking, running, swimming or anything that involves sweating it out and feeling good afterwards.

I'm a freelance travel writer, amateur photographer and public speaker.

Reading about other people's adventures, day dreaming about my own.

Raving to heavy tunes!... (I love a good party!)

Podcasts - esp science, philosophy, current affairs and comedy (Greg Proops, Jon Oliver)

British cinema, festivals in the summer, good beers and having a laugh with my mates.

Food - I'm only truly miserable when I'm hungry.

I spend almost all of my life outside now and I love it. When I'm between towns I relish the feeling of not knowing where I'll sleep. I get a buzz from having simplified my life by carrying everything I need on a bicycle.

As I cycle I occupy my mind with many things. I re-live days in my past, I plan for the future and I daydream about the road ahead. I sing (very badly). I banter with passers by. I miss people. I watch the world pass slowly by my handlebars.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music... MUY importante! Straight up funk, off kilter future soul, old school hiphop, bboy booty shaking breaks and rib tickling reggae flavas, turntable trickery, nu-jazz and bass heavy breakbeat, tasty bootlegs and wonky reworks, rootsy dancehall riddems, dancefloor filling hammond-led grooves, northern soul stompers, swirly keyboards, loose beats and flutey goodness, sub bass wobble and neck snapping breaks, drum and bass mayhem and crunchy electro beats, dub and afro-beat tinged madness, floor rinsing party breaking work outs and sweltering latin blends.... always digging for true dancefloor bombs! Whoooh-ha!

Artists - Toots and the Maytels, The Pharcyde, Massive Attack, Leftfield, Radiohead, James Brown, Krafty Kuts, Skeewiff, The Quantic Soul Orchestra, Jehst, Sly and the family stone, Horis Andy, A tribe called quest, Aphrodite, Alice Russell, Chali 2na, Aretha Franklin, Fat Freddys Drop, Roots Manuva, Black Twang, The Stone Roses, Erykah Badu, The Specials....

Motown and Old School Hiphop are guilty pleasures!

Movies -
Mike Leigh's films like 'Secrets and Lies'. I love 'Dead Mans Shoes' and 'This is England' both directed by Shane Meadows. One flew over the cuckoos nest, The Exorcist, Borat, Sexy Beast, Requiem for a dream, The Wicker Man, Alien, 28 days later, The Deer Hunter, Trainspotting, Raging Bull...

Books - I've always got one on the go. I read a lot of travelogues and particularly enjoy Jonathan Raban, Colin Thubron, Laurie Lee. Humour - Bryson for one. Short fiction too. Novels by Jonathan Franzen, Zadie Smith, David Mitchell. (https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/14769010-stephen-fabes?shelf=read)

I love stand up... particular the genius that is Stewart Lee.
