One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I believe in magic, or at least I want to believe. So rare and sparse are the times when you feel a greater power at play that’s its hard to throw science to the wind, don a ceremonial headdress and run off into the forest to find magic ingredients. In the slums of Agra I did experience a magic of some sort. A group of kids saw me passing by and motioned for me to take their picture after a few ‘auto’ shots showed them the pictures and decided to try and be artsy with my camera. I spied a very timid girl hiding behind her friends wearing a bright red sari, which is great for a ‘colour accent’ shot. Beckoning her to step in front of her friends she lifted her gaze and from the time our eyes met I felt like she was peering straight into my soul…and having a look around. She appeared a self-conscious girl in her early teens but there was definitely something hidden behind that veil and instead of wearing a mask she stripped me of mine in an instant. It wasn’t a scary or disturbing experience I should point out, it was one of the most beautiful things I think has ever happened to me. In the end I sheepishly turned and walked away. She never spoke a word and she never looked away and I will never forget her.
