About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To do as much and meet as many people as possible whilst I'm in California for a month!

ABOUT ME

I'm an Officer of the Watch in the Merchant Navy. I used to drive cruise ships (P&O Cruises and the like) but I'm now working for on a research vessel doing some really diverse work to improve our understanding of the oceans.Having been sorting out my photos recently, I'm struck by how lucky I've been. I've been to some truly amazing places but like all travelling, you never feel like you've seen enough! So that's the challenge; see more, do more and enjoy life.

PHILOSOPHY

Everyone is interesting and everyone is a good person until proven otherwise. When I walk around big cities it concerns me that no-one will ever talk to anyone else nor even look anyone in the eye. I just wonder if these people aren't somewhat missing the point...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Not enough! I've had the odd drink with people but I haven't taken full advantage yet. Don't worry... that's soon to change!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Nothing! :( I do tend to spend quite a lot of time sleeping on the floor of various mates' houses but nothing 'official' yet!

Interests

Everything... I really do find so much stuff interesting, and for the most part, if someone can talk to me passionately about something then I'm interested!I love being outdoors and on the water, especially. When I'm not at work I volunteer for a tall ship sailing charity (the Jubilee Sailing Trust) which aims to bring able-bodied and disabled people, of all ages, together to experience sailing a tall ship. I get a real kick out of that.Aside from that, I also sail, climb and snowboard. I love to read, I own a motorbike and I really value my family and friends.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm an odd one with both music and films; I don't own much of either but I do quite enjoy them. I normally listen to music on the radio and watch films of the TV. My attitude to books, however, couldn't be more different; I love books and I've got so many because I just find it impossible to get rid of a good book once I've found it!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have done and seen some really incredible things so far and I count myself as incredibly lucky to have had such opportunities. To attempt to pick just one is impossible, so here are a few highlights:- Getting stuck in a thunderstorm at +4000m in the Alps.- Visiting the Pyramids, Egypt.- Seeing the Lost City of Petra, Jordan.- Going sailing on a mate's yacht and on a 65m tall ('pirate') ship.- Sampling street food and coconuts in Bombay, India.- A tuk-tuk adventure in Cochin, India.- Basking in the midnight sun off the northernmost tip of Norway.- Marvelling at the Northern Lights (and dodging icebergs!) off Greenland. - Going to the top of the world's tallest building (Burj Khalifa, Dubai).- Shark cage diving near Cape Town, South Africa.- A ridiculous and practically nocturnal week in Edinburgh.- Sailing up the Amazon River to Manaus on a cruise ship.Ah, good memories... I love my life!

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach me and I will learn. Ask me and I will share. Simple as that really... I love learning new skills (even really random ones) so I'll take every opportunity to learn from someone. As for me, I lead an interesting life, do an interesting job and would love to share my experiences/knowledge with you!

Canada, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, United States
