About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To work, act and live without effort. Wu-Wei.

ABOUT ME

My most pressing interest is nonduality. Apart from that, I'm studying composition, lot of my energy goes into doing music, listening to music and thinking, talking and reading about it.

Other than that, I'm a curious person and try to continue to broaden my horizon. Most things interest me.

With that said, my work is slow and perhaps I'm a bit slow person in some sense, so currently the thrill-seeking, adventuring way of gaining new experiences is not so important to me - now I'm finding a subtler, slower, more patient lifestyle rewarding...

PHILOSOPHY

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” (Proust)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When moving from Helsinki to Leicester I had my first couchsurfing experience which was very positive. Since then I have been living in shared student houses with limited space for hosting (or reluctant flatmates), but I would like to offer my couch for visitors when it's a possibility...

Interests

Nonduality, spirituality, direct experience, abidance in "no-mind"... music, arts, improvisation, literature, movies, meditation, tea, thinking, talking, listening... life, world, food, people, new things...

Music, Movies, and Books

I compose and study mostly electroacoustic music (e.g. Lionel Marchetti, Bernard Parmegiani etc) and free improvisation (e.g. Keith Rowe, AMM). As a hobby I also sometimes do hypnotic techno and (slightly Boards of Canada -esque) beat-based electronica.

For listening habits there's too much to mention, but techno is a big passion (DVS1, Planetary Assault Systems etc), other electronica/beat-based music also plays a big part (e.g. Ricardo Villalobos, Burial, Rhythm & Sound), ambient (Harold Budd, Biosphere), contemporary classical (Feldman, Ligeti, Xenakis, Debussy), older classical (Bach, Beethoven, Palestrina...). Then also e.g. Omar Souleyman, Animal Collective, The Congos, hip-hop etc. Recent gig I liked a lot was Swans.

Some books that have made a lasting impression have been Eckhart Tolle's Power of Now, Gao Xingjian's Soul Mountain, Morton Feldman's Give My Regards to Eighth Street, Iain McGilchrist's The Master and his Emissary, Ashtavakra Gita, Tao Te Ching and Dropping Ashes on the Buddha (on ZM Seung Sahn).

Some memorable movies have been American Beauty, Peter Weir's Fearless (1993, not the kungfu movie - although I do have a soft spot for kungfu movies as well, particularly for Jet Li in the early 90s), Hayao Miyazaki's movies, Kim Ki-duk's 'Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring', Mind Game (2004 anime) and Wild (2014).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.

Teach, Learn, Share

I think I would be most interested in sharing and learning about nonduality, although some of the most useful "knowledge" is not verbal or conceptual, but perhaps silent knowledge or "body-knowledge"/gnosis. But in perhaps more practical terms I know a thing or two about music as well as arts in general.
