About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Looking to live abroad-and stay abroad!

ABOUT ME

I'm a happy, curious type.

Interests

Music seems to take up lots of my time-I spent more time playing in orchestras (bass) or Samba bands in uni than I did studying (but that's the way it should be!) I like going to concerts and gigs (that seems to be where most of my money goes!).

I like the outdoors-e.g. running about somewhere wild and remote in my wellies, I love swimming in the wild and wished I did it more. But I also love the atmosphere in cities and feel equally at home there.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Edukators, Shine, Brief Encounter, Casino Royale, 25h Hour, Fight Club, Doctor Zhivago...
Belle&Sebastian, Antony&the Johnsons, 17 Hippies (they do all kinds of music-folk, "world", and between the 13 of them play about 30 instruments!), Mogwai, Mayra Andrade, plus scratchy old recordings of Chile's Victor Jara and Violetta Parra, Mercedes Sosa, Chavela Vargas. Whoop, there's my Spotify playlist in prose! I also go for Mahler, Sibelius, Strauss, Beethoven, Rachmaninov, Lizst, blah blah.

I'm crap with books. Of course I read but I'm not well-read. Again, I encourage suggestions.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Explored the Great Barrier Reef twice-feel very lucky to have done so.

Hiking around Korea's beautiful mountains always leaves me awestruck. The mountainside hospitality from strangers there is so touching.

Teach, Learn, Share

I taught my friend the basics of playing the double bass. No doubt due largely to his determination and enthusiasm, rather than my instruction, he passed his Grade 1 exam in just over a month. Nevertheless, I'm sure I could teach a few of you the rudiments of bass and piano playing, but you'd have to teach me something in return, like guitar or knitting.
