About Me

My nick name is ‘no fun mike’.

this name was given to my by my hostel crew in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Most others had a nickname that was the opposite of their personalities. I’ll let you be the judge to find out if mine is correct.

After various working holidays in Australia, New Zealand, A couple of years in Amsterdam and Canada, I studied Business administration in Rotterdam and graduated in 2014.
My next journey took me through Indonesia to Malaysia. This is where I stayed for ten months and set up the Attic bar in the Travel Hub hostel in Kuala lumpur.

After some traveling, I worked for a private luxury chalet company in Zermatt, in the swiss alps. Almost done there I landed a job as bartender at a kitesurf bar in Naxos, Greece. I left the Islands and the job early due to a unbalanced workload and paycheque.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm a wanderer in the soul. Up until this moment, the joy of new surroundings, people and cultures has always outweighed the more secure life. I have traveled for most of my adult life and experienced various types of hospitality. The most humble and open experiences I encountered while hosting or going to couch surf events. So hopefully there are many more beautiful couch surfing experiences on the way.

'important encounters are planned by the souls long before the bodies see each other'

So quite possibly our paths are already destined to meet (or not)

Interests

Travel

Like I mentioned before, I'm passionate traveler. Something I have done for a long time and planning to do so until I find that ultimate spot that will tackle me. (I haven't found it yet)

Photography/ Videography

Something I have always done as a hobby and I'm now pursuing a career in. Many things to learn and to experience down this path. And something I will spent a lot of time and effort in the coming months.

Sport

Big fan of fast sports, cycling, speed skating, snow boarding and more. I also practice fitness on a daily bases.

Cooking

I love eating fresh and healthy. And I like to buy my food and prepare my meals.

Planning to learn

New missions are to learn yoga and massage. I don't know much about yoga, but due to strong and large hands I know I can give a pretty good massage. But for both practices there is a lot of room for improvement.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I started a bar from scratch in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

When I arrived in the hostel there was an empty rooftop. When I left, there was The Attic bar. A beautiful place that I'm proud of to have build. Of course with help of amazing people.
It was one of my better travel experiences.

There are a few more memorable experienced I encountered along the way varying from working on a fishing boat in Australia to traveling from Vancouver to Peru by bus.
So much more to share that is clearly in the wrong place under this title.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm not the best teacher. although I make a killer coffee and cocktails :) And I'm happy to teach you some tricks on that perspective.
I do posses the skill to be a good listener and give my view on any dilemmas or things you have to deal with. (I'm not a shrink, but love helping and healing)

Learning is something I'm trying to do every day. From other people, from mistakes I made/ make and of course from the internet. My current aim is learning more about photography, videography and editing. This will not be done in the new future, since I'm running into new stuff on a daily bases.

Someone once told me: ‘food tastes better when you share it’
I like to eat healthy and fresh. So you’ll find me in the markets daily to select awesome foods to make nice home cooked meals (nothing fancy). One day I’m hoping to cook with/ for you, so we can share a meal and stories.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Like mentioned before, food tastes better when you share it. I would love go to the local markets, cook and share a meal.

I would also love to share my projects with you. If you are interested (and have time), join me on the various photo and video projects to come. I like to share ideas for projects, plan and execute them. So if you wan't to join me taking photos, shooting video, please come along and let's share this experience together.
