CURRENT MISSION
"To wander the earth like Caine in Kung Fu..."
ABOUT ME
Retired guy with quite a bit of travel experience, mostly in less developed countries. A lot of my trips have been to Mexico and Central America. I try to alternate foreign travel with explorations of the Western US. Currently, I live in a large house located in a neighborhood of Denver that is about to get gentrified. It is southwest of downtown Denver in a culturally mixed (mostly Hispanic/Asian) area. I hike regularly and love to campthe less-traveled areas like National Forests, Grasslands, and BLM lands. If I'm in town, I'd love to host one or two couchsurfers.
PHILOSOPHY
People all over the world are a lot more alike than they are different.
Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I grew up in Florida in a retirement community. Now that I'm older, I don't want to be one of those senior citizens who sits around all day talking about medical issues and complaining about things. I like to be very active and open to new ideas. I am comfortable with individuals who are LGBTQ.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Over the last 15 years, I've hosted people from all over the world without ever a bad experience. My own surfing experience is more limited but I've done it in Florida, Colombia, a trip across the Western US on Amtrak, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and Northern England. Couchsurfing is a great way to meet locals and really understand what it means to live in a place. Most everybody in the world understands that there is often a huge difference between the people who live in a country and the actions of their government.
If you've read down this far, here are some suggestions:
(1) I often get many more requests than I can handle. We have a small spare bedroom so I can only take one or two people.
(2) For me, Couchsurfing is an opportunity to meet interesting people. It's not a hotel, a crash pad, or a rescue service for stranded travelers. Just the fact that you are in Denver and need a place to stay does not make you interesting. Fill out your profile. All of it! Always indicate that you've read your host's profile. Tell your prospective host about any common interests and why you want to meet them.
(3) I seldom can take last minute requests. Even a couple of days is better than trying to find a couch on the evening of your stay. So plan ahead.
(4) If you are traveling with a friend, make sure to include information about them in your request since they will also be our guest.
Intereses
My hobbies are writing fiction, electronics, and soccer. I hike regularly with several local groups and would be willing to take a visitor hiking or show them around area. There are hundreds of trails within easy driving range of Denver. Also, my state has over 400 breweries and I'm a big fan of microbrews.

Música, películas y libros
What do you like to watch, read, and listen to?I like a wide range of music--everything from old blues to Afropop to Salsa to Psychedellic Rock to Cumbia. I mostly read nonfiction--archaeology, biographies, history, etc. Lately we have been discovering internet radio stations around the world and listening to a lot of new music.
Algo increíble que he hecho
People always ask me this but I never can come up with a good answer. I seem to discover amazing things on every trip. As long as I'm able to discover new places and new things to do, it's all good. But if I had to pick one thing, I'd probably choose my raft trip down the Grand Canyon.
Enseña, aprende, comparte
My background is electronics but lately I've been learning software. Particularly for us old guys, I think it's important to strain the brain once in a while.
Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones
Good conversation, interesting stories, our own twisted concepts of reality. I've lived in Colorado since 1967 so I'm a great source of information about Denver and the surrounding area.
