About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel the entirety of the Eurasian continent by land from Iceland to Papua

ABOUT ME

I'm an Indo-Saxon writer and adventurer, nearing 30 and with no intentions of slowing down ever. My goal is to learn and see as much of the world and its inhabitants as humanly possible in one lifetime.

PHILOSOPHY

Really profound

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Surfing for now and hosting when I finally pitch my yurt

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm still pretty new to it but I've surfed a couple of times and it was always positive and enriching. There are limits to what you can learn about the spirit of a place through hotels, restaurants, taxis, and other foreigners. CS can create connections and understanding between people and places which were perhaps not possible before.

Interests

Deserts, forests, high mountains, waterfalls, holy cities, music, literature, rituals, food and drink, history, economics, politics, philosophy and friendship. I'm also interested in all of the 6,909 living languages of the world and most of the dead ones, and I think plants and animals are awesome.

Music, Movies, and Books

Rock and roll. On vinyl. I've had affairs with many kinds of music (Indian, Latin, African, Bedouin) but it is rock and roll that is my wife and my life. I mostly read books about history, current affairs, anthropology, economics, religion, art, music and I love epic poetry, the classics and any great work of fiction: DH Lawrence, Joyce, anything Russian, Steinbeck, Henry Miller, Kerouac, Mann, Goethe.... films: Bergman, Tarkovsky, French new wave, 50s noir, Lynch, Coen Brothers, Scorcese, Kurosawa, Kim Ki-Duk, Chinese martial arts films, old cult stuff, cheesy 80s stuff....

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Feeding wild hyenas in the Somali desert.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you phrases from obscure languages you will probably never use. Recently I learned the Ethiopian coffee ceremony which is pretty cool if you like coffee.

Countries I’ve Visited

Albania, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iceland, Indonesia, Jamaica, Lebanon, Lithuania, North Korea, Serbia, Somalia, Ukraine

Countries I’ve Lived In

Canada, China, Italy, Lebanon, Mexico, Thailand, United States
