About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Share food and beauty with the people around me. Grow plants to help in this endeavour.
ABOUT ME
I am currently finishing my master's thesis in environmental history and working part-time as a server at a cozy neighbourhood pub. I have a long-time love of good food and gardening that has slowly developed into an obsession with plants in general. When I'm not at work, I'm out exploring the riverbank with my two scruffy mutts Teddy and Maggie, foraging and marveling at wild plants, or in my veggie and cut flower garden, cultivating my ability to feed the people I love. I also have a deep love for the countryside and wild places, and enjoy spending most of my travel time on working farms or camping in backcountry areas. I am an avid reader searching for my niche as a writer, I love cycling, hiking, craft beer, and dogs, and I like to surround myself with beautiful things - I have a particular fondness for flowers and antique dishes and table linens.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm excited to be getting active on Couchsurfing again after (another) long hiatus! In addition to wanting to make use of the extra space we have in my house, I would be more than happy to meet travelers and show them around Saskatoon and area! I'm always looking for an excuse to have people over for supper : )
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My experiences began with hosting some really lovely people, which in turn sparked a desire to travel. While travelling in Europe in 2012 and 2015 I was lucky to have some amazing hosts, as well as participating in a few meet-ups organized through the network. I have been consistently moved by the generosity and kindness of the people I have met through Couchsurfing.
Interests
I am passionate about food in all its aspects - from growing and cooking it to talking about the ethical implications of the way the world eats today, I never get tired of learning about food! I believe food connects us to each other and the rest of the living world more powerfully than anything else. Intimately connected to that is a love of gardening and curiosity about medicinal plants, and a deep affection for beer and hand-crafted alcohol. I'm also interested in community, everything old, crafting, simple living, camping, music, and reading.

Music, Movies, and Books
As soon as you walk through the door you'll see how much I love books! I have an extensive library of food, gardening, history, and plant-related books, as well as lots of vintage books and classic literature. I also have a fun collection of second-hand records, mostly jazz and world music, with some country and classical in the mix.
Teach, Learn, Share
I have a garden that gets bigger and better every year, and as a result I do more food preservation each year - mostly juices, fruit sauces, and pickles. Extra hands are always welcome in the garden and during canning time, which is a great way to learn about those things! I am also a craft beer enthusiast and would love to share some local beers with others who share the same interest.
Most of all, I'd love to feed you while you're in Saskatoon if I have time to do so! I cook using mostly local ingredients, and love having the chance to show off what Saskatchewan has to offer.
