À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

a peaceful mind, learn more about the world

ABOUT ME

Professionally, I am a mid-career journalist working for a privately owned Chinese news magazine called Caijing (Finance and Business Review) based in Beijing. Thanks to my boss, who is a woman, Caijing has been able to walk a fine between censorship and freedom of expression. I've done a lot of investigative reporting involving official corruption and corporate scandals. I've also covered public health, international trade and international news. In the fall of 2008, I landed at Harvard University where I spent the next year as a Nieman fellow with other wonderful journalist fellows from all over the world. It was a life changing experience and so far the highlight of my life. Now back in Beijing, I continue my mission to push the limit as far as we can in a country full of unsettling reality.

Personally, I am a quiet and soft person (a bit contradictory to what my profession requires me). Yet, I am also a curious and adventurous person. I've traveled to many countries, most of time on my own (I am pretty free-wheeling). Interestingly, every time I travel overseas, I learn more about myself and where I come from. I always appreciate different cultures and different people. That's what the world is supposed to be--every culture has its own beauty, every nation has its own history and struggle. What we can do is to see, to learn, to feel.

PHILOSOPHY

Be a good person. Nice to other people. Be humble. Learn about the world. Understand my own cultural roots and who I am. Be peaceful. Love.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

I like most classic music, especially Bach and Mozart. I also like jazz. Chinese traditional music, like Gu Qin and Gu Zheng.

I am not a huge fan of movies, but truly like Woody Allen's, especially "Anne Hall"; "God Father", "Deer Hunter" are pretty remarkable. Of course there are many other movies I've seen and liked, but can't remember all the names (I have to admit, I am bad at remembering foreign names).

At Harvard, I got a chance to read Henry James' "The portrait of A Lady" , quite intense. I also like chekov's short stories. Eearst Hemingway: Movable Feast, The sun rises; Tobias Wolff: This Boy's Life, ect.
Chinese classic: Dreams of Red Chamber

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

To spend a year at Harvard as a Nieman fellow is definitely an amazing thing for me! It was such a wonderful time!
