About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to learn how to roll my r's (seriously, it's a problem)

ABOUT ME

Opportunistic.

A fellow couchsurfer used this word while we were having a conversation, and I loved it. This is how I try and live my life. Hopefully it's not going to end anytime soon, but why wait until tomorrow to do what you can do now. There are so many opportunities that come along, and taking advantage of them is what reveals those special moments in life. I'm sure everyone's got a personal story about the butterfly effect, and if you do, then you realize how something that might seem insignificant at the time has the ability to change your life in an extreme way. It's fascinating.

I usually don't have a set plan, and that drives some people nuts at times, but I like grasping onto those spontaneous opportunities. You can plan out the perfect event and something could go differently then expected - if you're not willing to break free from your path to go with the flow and carve a new one, you could miss out on something great.

Life happens. Ha pasado. Smile and enjoy it - It's the experiences that make it all worth it in the end.

PHILOSOPHY

I think that things even out in the end, so you should only do to others what you would want done to yourself. I really like the concept of paying it forward, and if everyone did good things for others all the time, the world would be a nicer place. I try to live with a minimal impact on the environment, as everyone has only one Earth to share and it's not mine to abuse. I also think that everyone has their own beliefs and way of doing things, and I definetly respect that.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have now had the chance to surf a couple times in different countries, and although some of my experiences haven't been the greatest, I'm still trying to keep my hopes up, and only remembering the good times. Ye, my first experience was awesome and I met a great guy in that process - I want that list of positives to keep growing! I'm really excited to always experience a part of the world that I wouldn't be able to without this program.

Interests

I love playing sports, especially Soccer/Football and Ringette (if anyone actually knows the game, i'll be super impressed!). I love almost everything about the outdoors, although there are those days where I need help finding the motivation to actually do something... but i'm always happy once I'm doing it. I'm pretty spontaneous, and love trying new things. Waking up and doing something crazy that I would never have been able to guess that I would do is the best. I appreciate a challenging conversation, and I love a wicked party with friends.

Music, Movies, and Books

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of my most fulfilling experiences was when I volunteered in Vancouver, Canada for a week. I was with a group of fellow students, and the area that we were in was East Hastings... the poorest postal code in the country. We learned about a lot of the issues surrounding the poverty, and we also worked with an innercity school on a literacy project. It was amazing to see how the kids can appreciate so much in life, including a hug, the ability to learn, and food at lunch. It was hard to know that a lot of the kids had varying disabilities that often could have been prevented, but a lot of their parents abused substances, or endured other hardships from living in poverty.

However, the more I live, travel, and experience new things, the more I realize that quite a few things can go into this box (but i'll keep it to one... like the title says, and for sake of reading) :)

Teach, Learn, Share

No matter where in the world you are, or what culture you've lived in, people's words should be taken literally, and what they say is what they mean. No games or tricks.

I can show you how to actually tie your shoelaces properly.

I love learning.
