About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be able to constantly move, see more things, share more, help more, write more, photograph more, to be eternally challenged creatively. It's the exercise my mind aches for.

ABOUT ME

Hi!
My name is Diana and currently I work as a freelance writer and translator, and I blog and do photography in my free time.

I have been living in Indonesia all my life, in Jakarta, Surabaya, and also Malang. Nevertheless, I do try to travel as much as possible, both inbound and abroad. So far I have done 2 european trips (which includes visits to England, Scotland, France, Spain, Switzerland, and Germany--although just passing through the Autobahn!)Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, Australia. I recently got married to an American and we plan to travel more together :)

PHILOSOPHY

I suck with plans. Maybe it's not my personal trait (not something i'm very proud of either :p) But i pretty much know what i want in life, and i think it's by far quite sufficient as my guide in life.
that's probably why I can not stand, and always feel miserable around tour operator, or any kind of planned tour with fixed schedules!
I also feel grateful that am able to feel full happiness out of the most ordinary things. like a walk with my favourite music, paired with a breezy morning!

Sometimes i also love getting to places more than actually being in certain places.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

just starting. help me to get around to this please? :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted couchsurfers only twice, but I have frequently hosted friends of friends that are mostly living in Europe.Feel free to contact me for any couchsurfing, I am open to any nationality and gender, as long as they are nice! :D

Interests

Food!! I do believe trying and getting to know a culture's culinary heritage is one of the more interesting way to know a culture, other than getting to know the people.

With that, I also enjoy taking pictures. Sometimes I do it professionally, but most of the time I just like doing it for my own interests.

(General) art. i try to digest all sorts possible, but contemporary art is currently my easy entry :) A huge fan of Dali. (strangely the only artwork i can actually *try* to dissect :p

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

once in Barcelona I chased a guy who mugged my bag (with my camera, passport, iPod and memory cards full of shots!!!) down La Rambla and screamed like a maniac.
i ran so fast i amazed even myself, and was able to snarl at the mugger (who despite being a bloke, looked sooo much like Tilda Swinton!!) and got my bag back.

Teach, Learn, Share

The other side of Indonesia than the ones in news that's usually ridden with the word 'terrorists'. I am a practicing and devout Muslim but I believe and have nothing in common with those we see a lot in the news. People from the 'west' are usually surprised how insanely normal things are in this country :) Because truthfully, especially here in Jakarta, normal people like me way outnumber those hard fundamentalists.

Countries I’ve Visited

Egypt, France, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom, Viet Nam
