About Me

ABOUT ME

Born and lived in the New York area until I was 9, moved to amazing Austin, attended the University of Texas, and after graduating, moved back to New York City. A European (Dutch, British) Jew (non practicing) by pedigree, American at heart, singer/actor wanna-be, psychiatrist-in-training.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Unfortunately, my life (and lack of space) in New York City has made it challenging to host anyone recently. But I'm always meeting new surfers through events!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I surfed for the first time in 2011, and couldn't have asked for a cooler experience. It lived up to everything I would've expected (and then some) given what I knew about the CS community, and it still stands out as one of the best welcomes to the east coast I've had.

Interests

Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology, and really anything related to science. Food (and farmer's markets!). Natural, healthy food that makes you feel good and is good for you. Music, performance arts, parks and nature, and the small things.

Music, Movies, and Books

Too many to list! Movies: almost anything. Music: anything but country. Currently reading: The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2005, I spent a month in Costa Rica learning about some of the biological aspects of rainforest and tropical ecology, constructed a community facility in San Isidro province, and immersed myself in the homestay experience. The day we left, my host mother, crying, hugged me and did the sign of the cross on my face and chest, and asked that god be with me. To touch and be touched, that's something I'll never forget.

Teach, Learn, Share

Did you know that in the dark, the human eye can detect a flickering candle a mile away? Bet you didn't.
