About Me

I had a list of goals to achieve and once I'd achieved them I thought I would be happy. I got close and only then did I realize that happiness is not contingent on those goals. There will always be another goal. So, I am learning to live in the present. Learning how to be calmer, more satisfied in the small things and happier.

I'm a nurse by trade, having worked in a teaching hospital with trauma patients. I'll return to nursing this fall.

I am a Sufi and very interested in spirituality, the universality of religious ideals and the heart connection. I love learning about religion and the diversity of devotion.

I love to read, to dance, to hike, to bike, to try new foods and going to the beach. I love exploring and yoga and audio guides.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Traveling and meeting other travelers is fun! And I feel as though I am missing out on the culture of wherever I am if I don't get to meet local people. I love learning how people and families love, how they eat, how they sleep, what they do for fun. Seeing the diversity of people's lives is the best part about traveling for me!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived in an indigenous village in the Brazilian Amazon while in university. They taught me to speak Portuguese and taught me about their traditional way of life and their ideologies. The most remarkable thing was learning that, while we are externally quite different, we are the same at the core. We care for our families, have hopes and fears, lofty aspirations and mundane daily tasks. They cured me of exoticism for the most part. I was only 20 years old and I'm so grateful to them.
